Yes of course.
It depends on which way the sport wants to go, develop a healthy women's angling scene or do more to integrate women into the established mens scene and not differentiate, either would be good for women I would say. Recognition would be the former, equality would be the latter.

I have a question how many of the members commenting on this post are actually going to be fishing the qualifiers this year

Nope not fishing a qualifier, never fished one in my life. Considered it once at the height of my enjoying match fishing days, but that was as far as it got.

I stopped fishing the qualifiers on a point of principle when Match Room bought on board a betting company as it's main sponsor

Sorry @stephanie but my last match was over 30 years ago, l now fish mainly for tench, so I'm a specialist. But l have fished at club level against ladies and some were very good.

you have nothing to apologise for although I enjoy my matches I do enjoy a nice day pleasure fishing and have been known to enjoy a nice sunrise even trying for tench myself

Believe it or not the best time to catch big tench is between 8am to midday. Tenchfishers catch returns over twenty years have proved this.

I got my arse handed to me on a plate on a match last year by a 13year old female angler :giggle:

I must say in my defence I wasn't really trying though :D

Just seen a thing in the news reference professional darts making changes to include 2 females into the top flights championship finals and nothing negative being said about it do you think that is down to the television coverage that the sport gets as I am sure there prize money is significantly higher than fishomania final

I can remember back to the time that lady anglers got as good as male anglers quite clearly as there was even a phrase at the time if you were beaten off the next peg by a female, you had been "Wendied" which came from there being several very good ladies named Wendy fishing open matches.
My opinion if you draw the right peg and you are good enough to win off it that is the result and there should be no favouritism either way.

It's PC gone mad. Women only qualifiers to guarantee a female in the final, England football and cricket teams in all age groups have to employ a black/ethnic coach. Whatever happened to earning these places on merit, by winning qualifiers along with everyone else and getting a job because your best qualified. Most of our young England football teams are made up of predominantly black players. Why? because I presume they're the best players in that age group. Well I'm not having it!! I want the teams to be made up of equal black/brown/white players. How would that fit!!!!
Unfortunately, I understand I'm a white English male and we don't do very well at the draw bag. Oh well, Que sera sera. I'll just get on with it and let the PC brigade ruin everything my country stood for. I could think of a few words that P+C stand for but that big Red Button prevents it. Equality? don't make me laugh.

In a sport/pastime where muscular strength is no advantage, I don't see why men and women cannot compete on an equal footing... surely that is the purest form of equality is it not...?

Its the same in south africa their cricket selection is skewed to include a proportion of people of colour... now to me, that means that someone who may be better qualified from a talent aspect, has to miss out because of a rule that shouldnt exist... being at the top of your sport should mean you are picked on merit, not skin colour or gender or gender choice... your desire to compete in fisho should mean that you win a qualifier. Not that you win a ladies qualifier and got in through the side door so to speak...
