Sad to see any business go under but it still won't change the British consumers mindset of loving a bargain and getting the most for their money.
Fishing Republic will be replaced by someone else or my multiple smaller businesses that specialise in certain product ranges.
Online purchasing will continue to grow as will the demise of the back street tackle shops - that's just the way it is.

Generally speaking if a business appoints an administrator and, in his opinion, there's a good chance that the business (or part of it) will be sold as a going concern trading will normally continue until such time as there's nothing left to sell.

Surprised there's no announcement on the website - a simple 'business as usual' might help to keep some cash coming in, because at present, other than purchasing in store, people will be reluctant to order via the internet.

Most of the tackle firms have "Retention of title" clauses in their terms and conditions so I would expect several to be on site physically removing any stock that is not paid for before the Administration case is heard when it is harder to reclaim anything as preferential creditors like Tax or Vat get paid before anybody else.

7 tackle shops have shut down in my neck of the woods in recent years..... Now my local fishing republic in Swinton is under threat
Very sad that the jobs of the great lads who work there is under threat.... I hope someone takes over and keeps the shops open, or the lads manage some sort of buy out
Won't be long before all angling shops are online only.....

The Administrators will be trying everything to generate revenue and stir up some positive trade.

Brace yourself for some seriously good deals, but buy on a credit card to keep yourself fully protected.

*** Fishing Republic Update ***
Fishing Republic PLC on Wednesday confirmed it expects administrators to be appointed within the next few days.
Last week, Fishing Republic filed an application to appoint administrators, after shareholders refused to provide further short-term financial help.
Its shares have since been suspended from trading on London's AIM market but last closed at 5.25 pence each.
T&G understands that a deal may well be in place to buy all or part of the ailing business... more news as it breaks.

What I find equally as sad is we read posts from some who seem to take satisfaction from the business demise.
It is understandable to a degree if they have some form of grievance but in most cases they are trivial compared to people losing their income.

Totally agree, the main purpose of keeping this thread running is to keep the membership of this forum abreast of the latest developments regarding Fishing Republic so that they can make an informed decision as to whether or not it is advisable to make a purchase from them in what is a very uncertain time for the business.
A couple of people have mentioned that we shouldn't continue to run their banner advert but as they are fully paid up and continue to trade the banner will remain in place.

Just spoken to one of the staff at Fishing Republic Barnsley and the shop is still open, however he did mention that they expect (Subject to an announcement tomorrow) to be trading under a different name tomorrow but have been assured that their jobs are safe.
