| davidsenior |
Yes lads, you heard it (or read it) on Maggotdrowners first.
Barbel are now in the River Aire....!!!
After fishing for over 40 years (won't be to specific, give my age away) my first ever barbel came today.......(not as big as "Apache's" first)......but very, very welcome from a place you would least expect to catch a barbel !!!! The River Aire, at Shipley !!
It has been witnessed and photographed and returned unharmed.

well done m8.
My only barbel came from a commercial, and in my opinion that does not count. Hopefully i will have one from the ribble sometime this year.

That's news David - good one
For those that don't know the River Aire, less than 10 years ago you wouldn't have thought anything would survive in it as the polution levels were ridiculous [:)]

Hi,
this is my first post.
Glad to see the Aire now has barbel, do you know you can catch them in the Don, near Sheffield city centre too? I had one next to Wednesday's ground at Hillsborough, not big but its a barbel. Chub, roach and brownies in the salmon pastures stretch on Attercliffe too and kingfishers. Like the Aire, the Don was bright orange 20 years ago, its incredible how nature finds its way back.
Having said that i'm off to the swale tomorrow, barbel are bigger! |

Apache, don't kid yourself, skill didn't come into it !!
It was all luck, I was fishing a feeder in a known chub swim, and when the tip went round, nearly pulling the rod off the rest, I thought I was into a chub, nobody was more surprised than I was when it turned out to be a barbel.
