| Match Reels sub £40 | |
| Dr Bob | Advice sought for match reel. I see the new Shakespeare and Okuma models had an excellent review. Lots of BB`s, good retrieve, smooth drag etc etc. Can anyone recommend either of the above or preferred alternatives Thanks & roll on 15th... |
| Flying Fish | OKUMA EPIX ER 30, selling for £39.99 at most good shops now. I doubt you can buy better, FOR ANY PRICE. 8 ball bearings, spare metal spool etc etc. Who is fooling who? Take a look at one in your local T.D. What`s in a name? Unless you think it impresses your mates! JM2pW. F.F. <'}}}>< |
| politis | Bought the Shakespeare Powerplay 040 a few months ago - for all my feeder fishing. What a cracking reel, I used to have an image of Shakespeare gear as being `poor quality` but would recommend this one very highly I need to go fishing more often |

| fisherman | Just out of interest TINY , do Okuma make a reel with a rear fighting drag like the Stradic or twinpower shimano equivalents ? IF so how much please ? Thanks Fisherman |
| Flying Fish | Okuma offers a 5 year guarantee from what I have seen advertised. Tiny`s reel looks a good proposition for the money. JM2pW. F.F. <'}}}>< |
| The23rdMan | I've got a Browning Syntec STR730M and it's dreamy. Four spools including an alloy fella, 7 bearings - it's smooth as a recently shaved chippendale(not an image I wish to keep), and plenty of cranking power. You can pick them up for a tad under 40 quid. May all your lines be tight ones, and may all your tales be tall ones. Deano |

| piperpilot | With you all the way there Larry, Ron |
| Larry | in my opinion you only get what you pay 4 if you cheap you buy twice Shimano Rules with me Anyone who stops learning is old. Wether at 20 or 80. | Dibber | I read that before Flying Fish, someone bought a Baitrunner and the manufacturing company had left a quality slip in the box and on the slip it had details of other makes of reels, one of them being Okuma! Dibber |
| Flying Fish | I think Tiny would back me on this one? I have got 4 Shimano Baitrunners, and the Okuma EB30 is easily on a par with the quality and materials. I would go as far as to say it is probably better !! It did cost over £50, but then so do Shimanos (well over). The high end Okuma stuff is as good as most of the other manufacturers. Same with the Ron Thompson rods. The top spec IM8 carbon rods are as good as anything I have seen or used, both on quality of finish and action etc. They aren`t cheap rods like the combo`s that everyone sells. £100.00 for a 13ft. match rod is not cheap. Shakespeare do cheap end stuff, but then again they do top-end stuff, at top money, you takes your choice. I bought a new ABU closed face reel for float fishing, cost £70.00. You get what you pay for right ! Sticker under the foot reads "parts made in Japan, assembled in Thailand". So much for Swedish engineering !! It`s a great reel, but is it worth £70?? "Paying for the name" comes to mind. I love Abu stuff, I have over 50 Abu reels, made in Svangsta, Sweden. What happened to paying for quality? Now you just pay for the name ! New Abu beachcaster last month."designed in Sweden" label, tiny sticker on the butt cap, "made in China". You don`t think that Shimano maybe get their reels made in the same Far East factories as everyone else do you?? Not that there is anything wrong with that, just keep the price relevant to where you make `em !! You can fool some of the people some of the time etc.!! I keep my eyes open to what I perceive to be quality, and don`t automatically go for the "name" item. How do you think Matt Hayes affords that sun-tan all the year long? Shimano money maybe? JM2pW. | Geoff P | Having used Shimano, and seen the quality of Okumo reels I know which one I would buy in future. Andy now she who must be obeyed has got over the shock of my new box I coult be after a couple of your Okumo reels in a couple of months, unless of course you get some more Warbirds in (Is that what they are called?) They are brilliant. Geoff True friends are like good books. You don't always use them but you know where they are when you need them. | joe1987 | Some people dont have money like that to spend on fishing equipment. I find it hard to pay for my weekly trips! I feel like the tackle shops robbing my money, tenner there one minute, gone the next after a bag of groundbait, bag of pellet, some caster and corn! Does no-one else think that the mark-up on fishing gear is outrageous. (no offence intented Tiny or anyone else in the business) *)*Joey*(* |
| nick_gilbert | i posted this elswhere but here it is again http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3663940724&category=36147&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1 have a look at this new reel from mitchell it is without doubt the best under £40 reel, i use it in preference to my more expensive daiwa's, light and smooth running, only trouble is you can't buy it in the uk :-( but postage is cheap from the usa. Oh and yes it is made in china, they will rule the world soon [xx(] i have a OKUMA EPIX ER 30 (also made in china) and this reel is better as i prefer the frond drag[:D] shimanos are over priced in my opinion [:(!] Born to Fish [:D] Forced to Work [:(] |
| T | try the new shimano alivio |
| Geoff P | Dr Bob, Speak to Andy, Staffs Andling (AKA Tiny) Even worth a visit. Geoff True friends are like good books. | TINY | Go for the Okuma Interceptor. Twin handles like the Shimano Gt range. 5 ball bearings rotor equalizing system aluminium spool `even flow` line roller 5.0.1 ratio coil spring loaded micro adjustable rear drag spare spool Best bit............They come to you at £24.30 plus postage[:D][:D] Andy. STAFFS ANGLING SUPPLIES |
| Lid | Blimey, at that price Tiny, you begin to wonder if anyone's making any money out of them at all!! Have you got all sizes in stock? Lid [:)] |
| Flying Fish | The Okuma reels with the multiple bearings are the dogs bo**ox IMHO. Excellent quality at a fair price, easily as good as the Shimano equivalent. The cheaper end (Dynadrag for instance) with bushes or no bearings are OK for the money, but are not in the same league as the full ball bearing ones.Still good reels though, if you look what they cost. JM2pW. F.F. <'}}}>< |
| TINY | Oddly enough Lid,there`s another order coming in this week.[:D] Do you know......sometimes I shudder at the way I look after you lot.[:D][:D][:D]Oh well!soon be bankrupt[:p]lol Andy. STAFFS ANGLING SUPPLIES |
| joe1987 | I recently bought a daiwa samurai for my float fishing. I have an okuma interceptor and think its a great reel but a bit on the hefty side for match fishing, i did however buy the bigger size hoping to use it for heavy feeder and specimen fishing. Love the daiwa, small light, super smooth for 3bb, top dog for £35. *)*Joey*(* |
