Peter Morton.born 1954 in Chelsea. I have been married to my good lady Maria for 19 years, and we live in Sydenham,SE London I am an avid supporter of Chelsea FC (does this betray masochistic tendancies)[;)] I have worked in the Motor Trade for 26 years'and am presently employed at Lexus Park Lane,in Mayfair. Started fishing aged 7 (thanks mum)First fish a gudgeon. Joined first club in 1968 when Penge AC was formed, and won the first match (beating all the seniors).I also won the last match before the club folded 15 years later! Drifted out of the club scene, fishing opens and team events and just did my own thing till about 6 years ago, when a co-worker invited me to one of his club matches, which i won with double the weight of the runner up.Despite this i was invited to join the club (Hawthorne AC)which i did. I now serve on the commitee as Match Secretary. Last season, even started to fish the Winter League again for Ashford Tackle.(Managed a section win,and qualified for the individual final) Really love to trot a stick float down a nice river, but now find more and more of my time being spent at commercial fisheries armed with a pole and waggler rod. Even own a couple of carp rods and have been known to do the odd weekend session (not really my thing though)Still get the same buzz though from catching a fish (any fish) that i did when i first started all those years ago. I only got my first computer last year, and spent the first 6 months lurking around various sites before taking the plunge and starting to post.Have to say the whole experience has proved to be very pleasant so far, with hopefully some new friendships made and more to come through further Fish-ins etc. Cheers, Peter. StribboHi all, My name is Darren Stribling I was born 7-7-67 and am married with 2 beautiful girls who both love fishing with their dad. I live in Basildon but will go anywhere for a good days fishing. It's 30 years since I caught my 1st fish on the Norfolk broads and although I stopped fishing from 20 - 30 I am back into it now and love it (don't know why I bothered with golf). My favourite place is Gold Valley. Interesting story : While fishing a match at Makins I had the honour of Billy himself delivering my gear to my peg in the back of his Jeep coz I was late. Nice bloke, great venue !! Stribbo
RoppaHi everyone; My name is Albert Robson (bet I hated my name more than Del-J)I live in the Coarse Angling starved North East. I was born in 1951 at Newcastle upon Tyne. I now live about 20 miles further north in Ashington. I have the full set of 1 son & 1 daughter neither of which fish. I work for a local builders merchant. My great love of life besides my fishing is the magnificent Newcastle United. Supporting them is what makes the tranquil activity of pleasure fishing so important to me. I am a great lover of real ales (reflected in my body shape). I am a regular visitor to the Emerald Isle, but have also fished Holland, Cyprus and dabbled in Turkey

crustyHi my names Ian, I was born 12/2/1963, makes me nearly 40, I`m married 18 years, three kids. I`ve been fishing since i was ten, I`m at best mad keen and at worst obsessed. I know this sounds a bit sick, but the best thing i`ve ever caught was my wife Christine, she is just the best person to be married to, because she also loves fishing! She`s so perfect, she sometimes lookes out of the window and says " you`d best go fishing" and I go ( and usually have succes) I love fishing, its in my soul, an instinct, something I`m born to do! If i see a fish when i`m out , anywhare, i`m plotting how to catch it. One of my children is starting to get the bug and my nephew is having tackle for christmas. From going fishing you learn so much more than how to catch fish. The best advice I could think off, is think like a fish!!!!!
Ted SanchezHi all Strangely my name is Ted Sanchez I am a a Physics teacher "my worst subject at school" I can hear you groan, but it was my worst science subject when I was at school, but I ended up being able to teach it pretty well because I could empathise with the kids who couldn't understand it and explain with a bit more care the bits I can remember finding hard when I was a lad! I work at a big boarding School in Somerset called Millfield. I am a born again angler, at the school we have to do an activity after school finishes every week after pi**ing about doing all sorts of boring things I remembered my youthful days fishing at Rickmansworth Aquadrome, Aldenham Resevoir and other places so I thought OK do a little session with the lads...and BINGO!! I was well and truly hooked. I love it!! I am still learning and always welcome advice. Love the maggotdrowners but I don't post as often as I read. I am looking forward to meeting some of you guys at the fish ins. I've taught in Birmingham-Balsall Heath and Handsworth...choice areas!! Nottingham and in the South of France. Been married now divorced but still looking...but she has to like fishing and football! I still follow Watford, but because I am down in Zummerzet I don't get to see them too often. I have started going down to Yeovil Town for the last couple of years and I have a great time there. In September I rushed out of a match two minutes from the end missed Yeovil's sixth goal [:(]...to go to the Viaduct Fishery in Somerton!..Not all bad though as I caught a 14lb carp on free lined bread..a near perfect day cos Watford won and L*ton Town lost [^]!! If any MD's out there fancy a fish over my way email me and well have a fish and a few beers !! Cheers Ted

NewtNewt Vail - Concord, North Carolina, USA which for any geography impared folks is on the Eastern US Coast about half way down. I am 58 this month. Born in Washington D.C. in 1945. Computer Network Administration by trade at this point. Retired US Coast Guard in 1991. Fish almost exclusively from my 17ft boat /w 50Hp Merc outboard. Boat will run about 32mph which makes it great on small to medium lakes. If I ever fish a big lake, I rent a larger, faster boat. Mine just isn't designed for big water. Lure angling for preds by choice. No pike down here - too far south and too warm for them. Largemouth bass mostly. Also do the occasional bit of carping or catfishing. Still from the boat since there are no roads to most of the good places where I fish. With 3 anchors out I can remain pretty still so it works great. Fishing since age 2 (thanks Dad - Mom hated it). Carping for only the past 2 years or so. I honestly didn't know you could target carp until I happened on a US bbs that was carp & catfish. I was looking for catfish info. Wife loves to fish too but only if we are moving. She can't stand the bait & wait style so if I go for carp/catfish, she stays home. Lure flinging and she will stay out all day with me. Happened across a Brit angling BBS a little over a year ago. Have learned a bunch about the UK and angling over there. Interesting stuff. Have 9 kids - youngest 2 are 21. Have 8 grands unless I mis-counted somehow which is possible. Newt Vail
DaveOh gawd I hate this sort of stuff being a shy, reserved type Dave Webster, launched May 6th 1961, upgraded to Angler status 12 years later, fished for the Leeds Juvenile National Squad then the Intermediate Team as Captain, kicked Ivan Mark's butt in a big Trent open Started a career in Fish farm and fishery management, obtaining qualifications at Sparsholt College, left the business into self employment, merged with the missus, expanded the Webbo empire with two little Webbo's, sold business for easier life in engineering. Still there but in second company. Got into the 'net a few years back, started Maggotdrowning.com just messing about last winter, launched it Feb 12th 2001, fish when-ever I can,..... can I stop now So c'mon, I've done it so now it's your turn Dave Edited by - stu on 23 March 2002 7:11:25 PM Edited by - Dave on 23 March 2002 7:46:41 PM
Geoff PGeoff Palmer, 55 in February. As those of you who met me at Stafford will tell you I am a quiet unassuming person, and a teetotaller. I originate from Battle in East Sussex but have lived in various parts of Europe, during time in Army, and all over the UK since. I moved to South Wales in 1997 to obtain a job. Now work as a Quality Administrator for a Company, which manufactures multi layer, heat shrinkable barrier bags for the meat and cheese Industry. (And God that is a mouthful). Caught the fishing bug when I was a young lad, fishing a feeder stream to a local reservoir, catching brown trout, perch and eels. I don’t mind what I catch now. (A fish is a fish is a fish). The joy is being on the bank. I prefer to use the pole but I am equally cr** whichever method I use. I will admit I have now got another hobby, which is keeping in contact with all you guys on this site, quite the best fishing site I think. And long may it continue. Geoff If it swims, catch it.
Dai FishOK my turn name David Thomas born at a very early age on the 11 feb 1960 still live in the street that I was born in Pontygwaith, Rhondda South Wales, married to Ann for 16 years I have 4 children ranging in age 22,19,14 and 12 the first two boys are the only good thing to come out of a v/bad first marrage the second two are my daughter who is 14 going on 30 and my youngest son and only other angler of my tribe. MALCI hate this sort of thing but here goes. My name is Malc Doyle 37yrs old. Married Julie(hates fishing) in 1987 got 2 girls Gemma 13(loves fishing)given it up now and CJ 5(just starting to fish). And now a little boy as well born 20/9/02. Born in Reading and bought up fishing the Kennet/Thames and Gravel Pits. Been an angler since i was 5 or 6. Fished my first match at the age of 8. Captained Reading & District Juniors in the nationals for 4 yrs. Mainly match fish be it club/opens or just knockups but also enjoy pleasure fishing. The thing i enjoy most about fishing laterly though is watching Gemma improve in her ability and the look on the faces of senior club members when she stuffs them. (now it's crystal's turn) Moved to Rugby in 1988 (i think), most of my fishing now is spent on the commercials and canals, but my real love is trotting a stick float down a steady glide. Thats enough about me. Red = update on 7/10/02 Malc

Cyprinid_boyMat, 28, derive from Essex, but now live in Rugby, Warwickshire. Spent my life with fish so far from working in fishing tackle shops to trout farming in surrey, salmon farming in Scotland etc etc. Initially qualified at Sparsholt College in 1993 (same place as our leader) and just recently furthered my knowledge by graduating from the University of Plymouth in June 2000. Recently turned down a scholarship to do a masters degree at Stirling University as I suppose Doc Mat would be my next target if I could take more education. Well my brothers a Doc, albeit doctor of physics, so I need to match him lol. Starting fishing when I was 8 by becoming a member of Woodford angling club, which I continued to do until the age of 15. Started to fish for British groundbaits then moved on to Guildford angling centre (soon to be sovereign match group). Fairly successful, but fell out with the captain as I was dropped because I didn’t attend a Wednesday practice match (I had an exam at college at the same time). That was the last time I ever fished for a team!! Unfortunately I rarely get a chance to fish at the moment, in fact I haven’t been for over a year, and haven’t been seriously for nearly 5. I’m sure I’ll get the old futron out (easy chaps, no need to laugh, it was state of the art back then) and have a dangle. The canals around me just give no inspiration!! Oh well back to work. Reports to write then off to Scotland as the fools are draining 5 miles of the Forth and Clyde canal!! Why didn’t they do it in October? mat

bart4realMy real name is Giles, and I live in south wales. I am 36 years old, been married before but got let off for good behaviour. I have a degree in economics and spent the last two years studying for my PhD but due to having the equivalent of George and Zippy as supervisors, I am submitting for my Masters in Philosophy shortly. I am a match angler but I tend to travel to the midlands to do most of my fishing these days as the south wales match scene is non-existent. My only motivation these days is to try and break as many match records as I can, but I am not going to list them here. I prefer to fish carp venues in the summer but I enjoy any sort of fishing really. I hate team fishing unless I have the choice of who I fish with and I tend to steer clear of carp venues in the winter unless there are silver fish matches on the venue. Given the choice, I prefer to fish the waggler for carp as you can get them out a lot quicker than the pole. I am sponsored individually which helps with the cost of match fishing and I am looking for work as a lecturer at the moment. I have made two videos this year, one on chopped worm fishing and another on waggler fishing for carp.

keithMy name is Keith and live in Milton Keynes.39 years old and work for Coca Cola. My passion is angling and has been for well over 30 years.I have had reasonable success on the club match scene and now only tend to fish for the works team or small knock ups between friends. The club scene became very clique and as such such pulled out of team fishing as well. Looking forward to Malc's Summer league this year as we can fish different waters to the norm.I fish mainly carp waters and rivers although i have some successes on canals the appeal is dwindling.
AlexRi thought i posted this before... anyway im 14 and have been fishing for about 6 years. i do a bit of match fishing, but i am not in a club. in a few months i should get into the local cub due to waiting lists. my best junior match result so far is 4th. i started fishing on commercials and have done all my fishing life, only fished a river 4 times, cos there are no good rivers near me, and there are no canals at all! ;)
Jammy1My name is Gemma Doyle. I was born 3/11/88 (13yrs). Born in Reading Berkshire and now live in Rugby Warwickshire. Been fishing since i was 8 or 9 and in that time i have fished 2 junior open matches and won them both. I am a member of 2 fishing clubs and fish with the seniors as there are no other junior members. I have even managed to win a couple and beat all the seniors. What i class as my best match performance is when dad and me done 1st and 2nd, dad won with 30lb 2oz and i was second with 27lb 4oz of small carp. Biggest pole caught Carp is 9lb 15oz. Biggest Bream is 3lb 12oz. Favourite venues are Holly Farm (Gils Lake),Drayton Res,Borough Hill and anywhere else that i can catch fish from. One of my favourite pleasure sesions was at Holly Farm (Gils) when i caught 14lb in 3hrs with no fish over 8oz.

ZiptrevAfter reading the ZIPPY CURSE posts lol Malc and Dave (forgot to tell you its catching!) I think (shy as I am) I'd better do this, but as with all Zippy things!! Differently! On June 25th 1876 Colonel Custer beacame immortalised as a Religious man, A Sea Angler and a student of the Group sex practices of the N.American indiginous population! How? Well at the Battle of Little Big Horn, his last remark was reputedly "Holy Mackerel!!! Thousands ans thousands of F-----g Indians"! What has this to do with me and the shape of my life? Well 71 years later on the exact same 25th June, but now the classic 1947 bad winter year, I came, late, struggling and annoyed, into the world. I was happy where I was and it has been said that, for most of my life,(including 3 wives), I have been trying to get back! The significance of June 25th is this- It is the furthest day possible to be in a Calender year from the Christian Religion most Holy day of the birth of Jesus on Dec 25th! What chance have I? The Devil claims me for his own, but the much stronger power of love and goodness, strives to redress the sinner, so I have an inborn uncanny ability to stumble from ecstasy to crisis at the drop of a hat. I have had the most wonderful of lives and at the same time experienced disasters that make powerful and strong men wince! When things are going Great, I have a quiver in the bowel, knowing my old friend Disaster is around the corner! To cut it short (OK lol Shorter) Trevor Manning, Only Child of Dolly and Jack, born of the finest parents in the world (Gods balance fo the birth date) Educated pre Wilsons Comprehensive System at a Grammar School to an excellent Standard (Upside), Spoilt , Opinionated and Headstrong,so as the allowable school leaving age was 15 in those days, was the only child out of a year group of 120 to exercise my freedom and take the option (downside) Lied about having 10 'O' levels and 7 'A' levels to every subsequent employer and was never queried lol! After a succession of free moving, well paid manual jobs in the swinging sixties, inc factory work, building sites, an unforgettable series of 14 day North Sea Trawling trips etc., I decided at 19 to enter selling as a career. Married 1st time at 19 (What did I know), I was a father at 20, father of 3 at 23! (last 2 just 11 months apart, hadnt even healed!)a house owner of a 5 bedroomed detached house, 1 mile from the Trent at Gunthorpe and a Newly promoted (Toungest ever manager) for a large UK Office Equipment Supplier! Enter the Zippy curse! Started up a Game Company in 1973, totally unrelated to all my training, but I loved Shooting and was gonna show the World! Within 3 weeks of me starting the Company, Ted Heath and the miners had a set too, the 3 day week hit Britain! I had contracted to buy game from Prince Richard of Gloucester! The Spencers at Althorp Park (Althorp, NOT Althrop as the dyslexic news reporter has consigned it to history!) and many other large UK Estates. Hired 8 full time and 12 6-10pm evening bird processors, mortgaged a factory, cars and employed drivers! Struggled through til April in this unbelieveably bad period and eventually nearly lost eveything, but did lose wife 1 lol. Wife 2 , just happened to be an 18 year old girl, who joined me in the October of my disastrous adventure, as a Secretary and stayed for 20 damn good years! The only condition of my divorce was that I kept those 3 great kids (Well I needed the 2 boys as an excuse to go fishing) and as it's turned out, we're still at it together, although we live in 3 different parts of the world! Went back into Office Equipment and after 8 years was running a third of the UK Sales, covering from Dyfed to my old County of Suffolk, The whole middle slice of England and S.Wales. Head hunted in 82, I spent the next 8 yesrs running a Nottingham Based Copier /Computer Co. whos claim to fame was supplying the tracking system for Securicors launch of the mobile phone 1st Jan 85. Part of the deal was that I had 1!!!, the envy of all my friends for many a moon lol, It cost over £1000 to put in your car in those days! 89, kids leaving home, everything GREAT----------- Obvious warnings, but I never heed them! Decided to take a pub and in May 1990 became the Landlord of The Lord Nelson at Stanion , Nr Corby, Northants. My wife loved the Customers for the next 2 years!!! Until I found out about it!lol and Trevor Jr and I (4th child now born 75) decided to try something else! Went back home to Suffolk and on leaving day, decided to try again with wife 2 (another fatal error) and managed a pub in Lowestoft for 2 years.Still couldnt manage wife! so in 94 returned to Midlands and returned to Copiers and by 96 started my own Company in Alfreton , Derbys. Married wife 3 Elaine (inherited a daughter of 11 this time) in 95 and was relatively successful until illness hit in 99. Forced to retire in September 99, for a major operation and aint worked properly since! The Ziptrev came about,as my name is Trevor and on seeing me with no shirt on after I came home, my daughter said "I guess you're going back in then, if they've put zips in" lol Fishing has been the saviour of all my tribulations and I honestly feel I am 1 of the luckiest guys you'll ever meet. I make people smile with the disasters that I stumble into. I cant ever remember being depressed for long, I've made it, lost it and laughed at both those situations, times many as they say in Derbyshire. I have had incredible love and warmth showered on me!and I dont deserve the kindness people have shown. Currently I have software packages zooming in ,cos I mentioned it on this net, I,ve got kit being sent to me and advice for free, that is worth a fortune! My biggest ever accolade! My 2nd wifes Mum,Dad, Brother,Sister-in-law and kids, attending my wedding to my 3rd wife, 6 months after the divorce from their girl! Dont get me wrong, they still love her too, and she,s remarried, but they wanted to retain me as a son/brother -in -law. I think thats OK. Well, hopefully that wasn't to boring, not much on my love of fishing, but that comes through every day! Youve seen, how I started fishing, Something thats always carried me through the rough times. When Greg and Simon were growing up, I took them every weekend to Mallory Park and to evening matches on a wednesday there. Every Xmas it was fishing kit and Karen, their sister, tried it, wasn't to keen, but loved to come with us for the picnics! and to act as a recorder, noting times ,weights , species etc. Really full glorious days! Perhaps you'll feel for me on June 25th! You can see I never stood a chance lol, but Thank each and everyone of you, for reaching out, sharing your thoughts with me, joining me in this great sport and for all the help, advice and sheer damn laughs! As Tiny Tim says at the end of Christmas Carol "God Bless us one and all!" Ziptrev your resident Edited by - Ziptrev on 04 February 2002 01:34:16 AM
FrankHi Everyone, I've been sitting on the sidelines watching and reading whilst both Mrs G. and I have been recouperating from the dreaded flu. Its at times like this when you think about saying goodbye to ol' Blighty and head of to warmer climes. Anyway, here's a bit about me: Born in 1940 in a small village called Calverton in Nottinghamshire, the son of a miner. My mother didn't work as such but helped at the house of the local gentle family as they were known. Met Mrs G. at the age of 18years at a rock'n'roll hop in a Nottingham dance club which I cannot for the life of me remember the name of and married a year later. We then set up home in nearby Lincoln, moving several years later when my son, John, was born to Goole followed shortly after by my daughter Abby. Sadly John died as a result of a car accident whilst at the tender age of three and we moved once more partly to leave those memories behind. Anyway, as they say, life goes on and it has. I started fishing at the age of nine in Hornsea Mere whilst on holiday with my parents and brother and haven't stopped since although it must be at least five weeks since I last went. I can't wait until the warmer weather though as fishing during the cold and gales doesn't really appeal to me. Frank
Wey BackMick Worsfold born Guildford, Surrey 8/7/1951, Started my fishing on the River Wey and Shalford village pond aged about 6. Joined Godalming Angling Society 1964 and was active on the fishery management committee for a number of years, ceased fishing in the early 70s apart from the occasional sea trip with Shalford Village Club Group. Moved to Geoff P "country"[:D]in 1983 and started fishing again this year, favourite species Tench & Perch of which there are many in the local waters here, I am also attempting some Pike action this year. Surprisingly only a few tries at Sea fishing despite it being only a 15 minute walk away, prefer Pevensey beach like William the Conquerer! Married to Angela for 22years,we have two girls Kerri (16) & Lynsey (13) I am an Electrician by trade now working as a Calibration & Environmental Engineer here in Eastbourne. EndaMy name is Enda Hickey and I am from a small village called Daingean in County Offaly in the midlands of Ireland. I am 32 and still single, despite a number of attempts but luckily I escaped. I have been fishing now since I was 13 or 14 but it was nothing serious just the odd trout from my local river, it was not till I noticed a lot of people came over from England to fish my local canal that the interest in trout was dropped. Biggest problem with fishing on the canal was that I had nobody to show me the basics, so I watched the guys over to escape the close season and read as many books as I could. Eventually I could catch a few fish but only a few, that was until one day I met a guy who was Irish and had just as much gear as the guys from England would have. Fishing tackle was not so easy to locate and when I met an Irish angler with all the kit I was very suprised. I spent a day with him and he corrected my mistakes and showed me a few tricks, but that was only one day and the hunger for knowledge was greater than ever, I found out that the guy passed away a year later so I never saw him again. I put fishing on hold for a couple of years and took it back up in 1992 but again I was only dabbling with it, by chance I met a friend who had also started back and had started going to the odd match. He persuded me to join a local club and give a few matches ago. Got to steward at the World Champs in Bellek and was dumb struck by the whole idea of fishing at that level. So for the next 4 years I fished with a local club winning every club trophy that they had but I was getting bored easily as I was seeing the same faces and beating them in matches that was until the "Dubs" showed up at the odd match and won them. The Dubs were a group of guys from Dublin who were very good anglers and some were internationals and these guys were who I wanted to fish with. Two of my club mates went away and formed a new club based in Dublin and asked me to come a long and fish a few matches with them. The new club was a made up of the "Dubs" and a few others, First year out we qualified for the World Club Championships in Bulgaria, now I knew I was not to the standard that most of the rest of the club were so I went on the trip to basically learn more, we finished 7th with Damien Maddock 5th. For the next 3 years we upset the fishing world a little, we qualified for 2 more World Clubs winning a Bronze medal in our last trip, that was the first team medal any Irish team have won in a CIPS match. We went to the Angling Times Semi final and won it at Hallcroft, I fished well for a 2nd in section that day. We went to the final on the Trent, but with the exception of myself and Damien maddock who had a 2nd and 3rd in section we did not do well. We fished the Drennan Super league final that year as well but again results were not too good. To date we have had a few sponsors, we had Future then Image both whom we parted with, now we have a very good deal with Triana and Sensas. So my ambitions to learn more and more and compete more and more have led me done the road to fishing international rules matches. Last year I took part in a number of Irish team trials and a Bloodworm league which led me to getting picked for the Irish Squad. My biggest highlight is being picked for the 6 Nations this year and winning my section on day 2, I also got the chance to go out to the World Championships in Portugal and help out with the team, next year I hope to make the World Champs team and give it my best but time will tell if I do !!
OggyHello all! My real name is Mick Ogden, I'm 33 and live in Preston, Lancashire (that bit of the country where good commercial fisheries ar scarce and fishings hard) I am Secretary of St. Anthony's AC in Preston and have been doing the job for 8 years now. The Club started of as the usual working mens club fishing section but in the last few years has seen a greater influx of outside members due, I hope, to the good name we have got for ourselves. We managed a semi final spot in this years AT/van den eynde supercup at Border fisheries where unfortunately we came unstuck. But we'll be back! Personally I grew up fishing the ultra-hard Lancaster canal which was only a mile from my Mum and Dads place. It was only when I joined St. Ant's and my works club (Baesystems) that I started to travel a bit more and broaden my horizons. I like to think that my grounding in hard fishing has set me up well except for when I visit the proper plunder pools like Moorlands and Woodlands view as I always seem to struggle (squatts on a 4x10, 0.08-0.06 and 24's hook rig might not help!) If I was to describe myself I would say I'm a dedicated Club angler (although my 17 month old son Jamie has curtailed my pleasure and open maych sessions a bit) and thoroughly enjoy the experience. I have only been on the forum for a few weeks and have found it informative and have even managed to offer a bit of advice myself (squatts on a 4x10, 0.08-0.06 and 24's hook rig???). Oggy Top Dangling

TrevskiTrevor Ruscoe, aged 30 I live with my wife Jayne and two kids Daniel (10) and Joshua (6) in Willaston which is about half a mile from Nantwich in Cheshire. I started fishing aged about 10 and used to go every week with my Grandad, mostly on meres and canals until it fizzled out when I was about 15. Started up again in July this year after a 16 year break after being pestered by my eldest to take him. Thanks Dan![:D] I currently work for a mail order mobile phone retailer as the IT Manager. SteveHi all, I am 43 years young and live in Luton Bedfordshire with my lovely wife Julie and three kids: Sarah 16, Chris 14 (fishing buddy) and Rosanna 11. I was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, (my granddad was a trawler skipper so it’s in the genes) moved as a child with the family due to a shortage of work. I work in an Aerospace company as Operations and HR manager and it’s only fishing (and my family) that keeps me sane. I have been fishing by one means or another for as long as I can remember. This is me aged about 6 or 7 and like the Mackerel; I was well and truly hooked. Over the years I have coarse, sea and fly fished but for the last fifteen years concentrated on sea fishing. In the summer of this year I decided I might try my hand at fly and coarse fishing again and I now realise what a plonka I have been. I don’t just like sea fishing, I like all fishing and I have been missing out big time. I run a youth soccer team at under 15 age group, play the guitar and do far more DIY than I’m sure is good for you. This is me a few weeks ago, a little bigger than my previous pic but just as keen on fishing. Fishermen have more fun than people do! Steve

Can't get DJ work so I fish instead. 9-5, Electronic Engineer, usually Telecoms, currently work as a Diagnostic Engineer for Nokia in their R&D department on their new camera phone, which is perfect for fishing cos you can take a picture of the monster you just caught and send it straight to all your friends (no I am not on commision[:D][:D][:D]). CourseCraigHi - thought I might post a little about myself to keep a trend going Name, Craig Age, 21 Location, Cheltenham - Gloucestershire Fishing since, Age 10 [ish?] I was introduced to course on the River Severn by my dad who also fished there when he was a kid...I think my first was probably a Gudgeon - my favorite fish has to be Perch. I'm sure my PB was the Common I caught last week, 14.5lb, by the tail :| I don't recall catching anything bigger than that previously - had a massive gap from fishing for about 3 years up until about 4 weeks ago when my ex's little brother said he'd been bought some kit and would like to go - well that was it - bug really bit me hard and i've been about 5 times in the last 2 weeks since getting my NRA licence sorted. During the week I am a Networks/Systems/Telephony Administrator for a company in Cheltenham - I enjoy going to the gym, riding my bike and messing about with computers. I'm now finding the fishing bug has got me hard so will have every Sunday booked for fishing from now on :) Very much looking forward to meeting some people from the forum and learning something - and maybe even getting myself into match fishing. Craig
Adam SHello all Name:Adam Shannon, age 22,live in kildare in ireland. i love all types of fishing, game, sea but most of all coarse.i love all types of fish (but i love bream the least) ,fave fish to catch would be tench, perch, brown trout and pike. am on a year break from college, going back next year to do some postgrad stuff, probably. started fishing in my local canal when i was 4 catching perch on a bamboo rod.still spend most of my time chasing big fish on the canal. going to track down shoals of fish on my local resevoir as my next planned campaign. i love to meet other anglers and talk at great lenght about fishing. i work in the summers with the dublin angling initiative bringing groups of "disadvantaged" kids fishing (inner city summer projects, drugs reform groups, youth clubs etc), its great to try and get the kids into angling. on wednesday i helped two local kids catch their first tench on the canal, hopefully satrting them on the road to angling. good luck adam

HappyeaterHiya everyone, New to this board really, love my fishing. My name is Paul Edwards, aged 38, I'm married (to Hazel) have 3 wonderful kids including Michael (aged 10) who is now my fishing buddy. We live in Newcastle upon Tyne. I'm a massive Newcastle fan (season ticket holder), so I'm not too used to seeing anyone win anything! I own my own commercial cleaning business which restrict the 'fishing time' a lot. Still, Michael and I have just joined the Wansbeck and Cramlington Angling Club and are making the most of the light nights and some week end free time. Started fishing at 12 with my dad. Caught my first fish at a town in Brittany called Chateaulin. I threw a line in with a hook and maggot and hey presto...a beam looking thingy! Yeah, I know my fish. Fished mainly off the rocks into the North Sea with the odd bit of coarse fishing till early 1980's. Met Hazel, gave it up (and fishing too lol) until my young buddy was old enough to take to the lake side. Now, I come here eager to learn as much as possible. I find the site funny, educational and interesting. Keep up the good work everyone.
StevepHello all, My name is Steve, i'm 24, i live with me bird and she wants to get married but i dont! I used to fish all the time but havent done so for about 5 years. Ian CHi everyone [:)] My name is Ian Carroll, I'm 43 and I live and work in Derby. I'm happily married to the woman I asked out when I was just 13 [:0] For the last two years I have been busy studying with the Open University, with the aim of attaining a degree in computing. But I have decided to take a year off studying and spend plenty of my spare time fishing for pike and carp. I sold all my fishing gear about 9 years ago and I only came back to it a few months ago. But I'm enjoying spending my money on tackle again [:D] My best pike is 20lb 14oz from a norfolk venue, but I never fished for carp much before, so I'm looking forward to beating my previous best of 15lb in the summer (fingers crossed). My best fish since starting back, is a 17lb 4oz pike from a local marina [:D] I'm keen on fishing new venues so will be looking out for any of your events in the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, or Staffordshire areas. I look forward to fishing with some of you sometime. Ian C
splodgerHi everybody, The name is Paul and i was born (although some of my so called "friends" say i was quarried) in 1956 because i wanted to be close to my mother at the time. Birthplace Doncaster. First went fishing in 1975 with my old mate Kev Hall to a local brickyard pond. My first fish was a roach of a couple of ounces but it was enough to get me well and truly hooked. I joined my first club the following year (Don Hotel A/C) and have been club fishing ever since. I now fish with the Star Inn A/C, the premier Angling club in Mexborough, South Yorkshire and hold the title of the only angler to win the Angler of the year twice. I am married to Helen who has no interest in fishing but does not stop me pursueing my hobby as far afield as Ireland and this year, Holland. She has bore me two wonderful boys (aged 6 and 11) and my eldest has been with me on a couple of occasions and has a common carp of 4.5lbs as his best fish to date. I am comfortable with most styles of fishing but i suppose my favourite is the waggler. My best match weight to date is 80lb 4oz but my personal favourite was 76lb of prime roach from Clumber park lake two winters ago (on the waggler!). Thats my profile and i hope you enjoy reading it. TA TA for now, Paul.
Mark BHi Names Mark Brown aged 41 and live in Bicester with wife Julie, four daughters and Jack Russel (Brownie). I work in the City looking after other peoples money. Life long Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter and fishing nut been fishing from about 8 or 9 when old relative took me. Spent my early 20's fishing for carp but was converted to match fishing by my father in law who showed me the error of my ways. As with most youngsters who take up carp fishing behind a set of optonics, I would have done much better if I had spent time learning about other forms of fishing before concentrating on one species. Fish mostly club matches although normally get away for a week a year with the lads for a spot of serious maggot drowning. Get to Ireland or one of the many residantial commercials. Planning for our next trip, possibly Ireland or Denmark. Wife thinks I'm mad spending so much time messing with tackle, but we all know clean and tidy tackle catches more fish.(don't let her know the truth) Fish with Diawa rods and poles and Shimano reels although I've recently purchased a Trabucco SC1 carp for serious carping. I think tackle is all about confidence and once you feel good about a pole or rod, stick with it. Never had a problem with either brands. Best specimin to date is 2lb 10oz roach from Patsull Pool W'ton, although I,ve had a few 20's on rod and a 16lb carp on the pole and 3 other serious doubles from Docklow. Best possible weekend would spent in Wolvo watching Wolves on Saturday and a match on Sunday. Still fish with a Wolvo club although refuse to travel to fish canals (best left for the joggers, cyclists and boats). Can't stand people who condem the commercials without having tried them as match venues and who would prefer to sit all day fishing the pig on a river catching sweet FA. Over to the next one. MB[:o)]

anyexcuseReal name David or davegoughsecofbrynmillanglingclub for short. Rarely use the latter name mainly due to ridicule so Dave will do fine.Got born in Lewisham in 1961 before family legged it down to Eastbourne 18mths later.Started fishing off local pier with my dad when I was 8.But due to being sold an 8ft solid-glass rod and multiplier reel by a dubious tackle shop, totally unsuitable for a beginner,my interest didnt really get going till my dad bought me a spinning rod when I was 12. By this time we'd moved to Swansea. Caught my first fish(an eel) when someone introduced me to the worm.I'd previously been using an imitation eel(aka insulation cable on a hook)which accounted for the fact fish had been hard to come by since I was 8. You may of guessed at this point that my dad didnt have a clue either -not a good start! Got hooked on fishing though, mainly game-fishing and sea fishing in the spring/summer between football seasons. Got into coarse fishing when the legs gave up on the soccer field in 95/6. Enjoyed it so much I became the club sec and more recently regional sec of the Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers. Happily married to Louise(who hates fishing) who dropped a fishing mad son(cant fault her)Daniel who's 9yrs old and is having a better start than me to his fishing life - there's no insulation-cable-on-a-hook in his tackle box!! Mainly pleasure fish but enjoy the odd match and am looking forward to meeting some of you at the fish-ins. Dave@Brynmill&DistictAC
lodge1as you will see Im down under.Born Barry Gausden in eastbourne ,moved to NZ 36 years ago.Thought that it was the end of my coarse fishing.Had done plenty as a youngster {till the club kicked me out 4 rollicking about on the bank with a girl.]Im on the roundabout 4 the second time,3boys from the 1st and a girl from the second.Im in the electronics industry but also have an import company and an equestrian retail store. When I found there was coarse fishing here I thought that there was a heaven after all.I have fished for the NZ team a few times and enjoy match fishing the most.I always look forward to my trips to UK for the chance to match fish against some serious anglers.I have a full set of gear in the UK to make it easy.{foot and mouth and weight etc]The fish do get a bit big here and the sea is full of things that have serious teeth.Future fishing plans are to put in my own lake full of fish on my farm.

angler-markBetter get mine done [:)]. The name is Mark Alderson, born in Yorkshire in 1951, moved to Derby eight years later and still here. Married for 28 years to Lesley and we have two children, a daughter aged 21 and son aged 19. Started fishing in early teens and never looked back on a great hobby, mainly for pleasure but also fish in my local club matches. I enjoy fishing rivers or lakes and enjoy fishing with rod or pole all year round. I'm lucky enough to fish with Archie Braddock on a regular basis and ocasionally with Bob Roberts, both have passed on great tips on methods and baits and at the moment am tending to try for the bigger specimens of Barbel, Perch, Chub and Roach. I'm a member of a disabled fishing club and am also the head bailiff of the same club (PAD). We have a nice stretch of the river Trent that has 20 purpose built platforms which are perfect for disabled and able bodied anglers. It was earlier this year that I met Trevor (Ziptrev), when he joined PAD Angling club and he introduced me to this brilliant MD's site. BlythMagsHello My 'real' name is Alan Giloney and I'm 32 years old I live in Blyth (the Northumberland Blyth) and I'm a keen Newcastle fan (season ticket holder). I work for the Inland Revenue (that should ensure that no-one responds to any of my posts) as a project manager. I'm brand new to fishing, apart from a few fruitless outings with a mate while I was in the Army. In fact, after many years of talking about getting into angling, I've just bought my first rod, reel, tackle, clothing etc and I'm still waiting for a day where it's not freezing cold, raining or blowing a gale so that I can get out there and get cracking. Hoping to get out on Wednesday, but whether I catch anything is another matter? I finally decided to make the push after the bank manager came knocking at my door......I have spent close on a small fortune watching Newcastle at home, away and in Europe over the last few years (God. what did I do in a past life to deserve that) and it's becoming far too expensive - I need an alternative to spending copious amounts of money getting excessively drunk on a Saturday.......fishing fits the bill perfectly. I have just applied for a membership of Wansbeck & Cramlington Angling Club, which I hear is good? Anyway, I'm sure you'll hear a lot more from me over the coming weeks and months as I bombard ebveryone with the most basic of questions - just bear with me........or ignore me!
mike_pk_watersMike Waters aged 42 (mental age approx 7 and 3/4). Liing in Edenbridge kent (about 3 miles from bough beech resivoir) Been fishin since I was 7, started at Keston ponds. Make the now relgious trip to Irland every year with the father.(he too is a keen angler.) and its the highlight of the year, bagging 250lb of bream on a georgous Irish Lough is my idea of heaven!!
Stewart BloorFishing fanatic! Married with 2 kids, to a wonderful wife who lets me go fishing as much as I want. Haven't quite worked out whether it's because she is happy for me to go, or she just likes to get rid of me, but who cares! I mostly target bigger fish, and am an all-rounder. If pushed, I would say that my favourite fish is a chub. Also do some angling writing, which I enjoy very much. Oh, and I'm also an ordained Minister, so watch your language
The23rdManHi guys! Firstly, what a great site, nice one fellas[8D] My name is Dean, I'm rapidly approaching the big three-O, and have been fishing for the majority of those years. I'll hold my hands up and admit I've sinned in the past and sold my tack to pursue other interests(whispers golf). The last occasion, a few years ago, was to finance treatment for the condition I'm blighted with now, chronic fatigue syndrome(boo!). But I'm making a decent recovery now and am putting my gear back together(hurray!) with a view to hitting the bank this spring...and I just can't wait! That's all you're getting out of me at the mo cos if I start rattling on about my fishing history I'll be here all day harking back to halcyon days when the sun always shone and floats were never still...ahh. Amazing what time will do to those blanks, eh guys[;)] Traaaaaaa! Deano

carpbob3Right Here we go Robert Copland born 27/11/63 in Bedfont Middx known as Bob to me mates and all other names by the ex's. Started fishing at about 7 or 8 with a piece of string and a safety pin (didnt catch anything) Moved to Banbury in Oxfordshire at 11 years old with the company my father worked for. Took up fishing at the age of 13 and went all the time on the Canal and occassionaly on the river cherwell. I carried fishing from then after moving back to North London getting married to the 1st (mistake) and fathering 3 sons. In 1990 i moved to Portsmouth and area for 18 mths but never had the chance to fish. I then moved to Leeds and settled down again 2nd time (and another one of my misguided judgements) and fathered another 2 Sons ( keep up yes i have 5 sons) unfortunatley i left all my tackle in pompy and never went back for it. About Three years ago i decided to return to fishing again and have spent a small fortune tackling up again. To date i have no real PB's. Two years ago i met my now livin Partner Shirley who has two sons both in the Army. Although she isnt into fishing she will come with me in the Summer ( a handy coffee and butty maker) and vows to spend as much money on herself as i do on fishing (but she is a long long way behind at the moment) She has now been religated to an MD widow as i spend more time on this site than i do with her. I am constantly learning and my aim this year is to land my first double figure Carp i will bore you no more Bob if your not fishing your not living
wilsmaboyHiya all Name: Steve Wilson - new visitor to Maggotdrowning - but won't be the last !! Born: 5th November 1962 in Saltburn - North Riding of Yorkshire in those days - till some bureaucrat created Cleveland ( still a tyke at heart though ) Current: Live in Middlesbrough with my lovely wife of 15+ years Sheila [:)]( she actually encourages me to go fishing !!). Work for the Court Service ( Crown & County Court's if you were wondering )as NE Area Communications & IT Services Manager. Fishing History: Late starter - June 1990 ( remember the year cos' I took up fishing when I gave up smoking !!) a mate took me to a local pond and, after catching 15 tench in one afternoon, I was hooked. I am in a couple of clubs now, British Steel Redcar ( very local fishing ), Head Wrightsons AA (for summer river matches ) and Wilton AC - where I am Club Secretary and Treasurer. I do more match fishing than pleasure fishing - I held the club match record ( 72lb 12oz) until very recently when it was broken with 88lb 2oz ( in very similar conditions to when I created the record ). The only exception to match fishing is the annual trip to Ireland or Holland. I design and maintain our club web site on my free web space on NTL - have a look and see what you think !![?] http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stephen.wilson12/Wilton%20AC/index.htm Steve Wilson

joe1987Heres a life story for ya. Well im joe knowles 15 08/09/87. Li ve in the worst place on earth, Darwen, Lancashire. First started fishing, at around 4-5 with my dad, and his mates Norm and Tom. Many a summer holiday in south wales and devon were spent on our little boat, Kerry jade and I have many memories of the old seagul outboard conking out and having to row back! I always used to catch sandeels, then later on i started to catch mackeral, dogfish and my all time favourite, THE GARFISH. After my dad's friend's marriges ended, so did our holidays together and kerry jade was sold (complete with seagul engine). Me and my dad kept fishing the rocks catching pollock and once i broke a rod with a four pounder! Started going abroad for holidays and never fished again from 9 until august 2001. Except for the odd sea fishing trip in whitby and once in tobermory, scotland where i caught a 50lb common skate. I decided to take my telescopic rod to the local pond where i caught many perch, the largest being 1 1/2lb. I then changed secondary schools because I wasnt learning enough and having too much fun. This is where i met my good friend Tolley (The percher) and he took me along to bradshaw and i caught my first carp, I was so pleased. Ever since then we've been fishing together, yes I admit Tolley beats me most of the time but on a couple of occasions i've won. I've entered a few matches on hoddlesden but found it to be very tense. No-one would talk apart from a few old men who wernt really bothered about the match, just wanted to fish. I recently bought a pole (watch out tolley) and am just getting used to it. In the future I hope to catch a 3lb+ roach and perch, a zander, a double figure carp and a double figure bream. I havent been coarse fishing long and i'm not brilliant but at least i can cast, Tolley, and I have lots of fun. By the way, dont know about the sidekick thing. I do know you always have to borrow/steal my stuff because u don't buy your own!!! Get them rods bent, get them reels screamin', get fishin! Toodlepip **Joe-boy**

snakeyHi ya. My name is Kevin (snakey to anyone who knows me)I am 42 years old and live in Olney which sits on the River Ouse just otside Milton Keynes.Married with 2 kids who both enjoy fishing.Wife Mandy is not to keen on it though, she has been a couple of times but she hates handling those small wriggly things you put on the hook (waiting for all the sexist comments)and won`t touch the fish she catches. Started fishing during my teens but took a big break when the wife and kids came along. Started work for Coca Cola in 1990 (yes another cokehead)and started fishing again when I offered to make up the numbers in one of the company matches.I turned up with one rod,a reel,1/2 a pint of maggots and a few bits and pieces in a tesco carrier bag.Didn`t do very well on the day but it got me hooked again. Started going out with Keith,Kevin Arathoon,Vic etc and learnt new methods and techniques (thanks lads)and improved to the point where I am now chasing their tales.Looking forward to fishing with some of you guys in Malc`s Summer Series next year. NOT TAKEN UP GOLF YET
AL_PetersHi my Names Al i am 24-36-42 lol no seriously The names Allan Peters i am 43 born in 1959 in a lovely little fishing village called Bolton in Lancashire, Bolton Wanderers are my team and I held a season ticket for over 15 years then i found sense and now all my spare time is spent Fishing all over the U.K and Ireland i hope to try Denmark this year as well. I work in the entertainments industry as a comedy vocalist and travel all over Europe working holiday camps working mens clubs and hotels with the occasional cruise ship thrown in for good measure. I love fishing commercial fisherys and Ireland and my best fish is the last one i caught, I never tire of fishing or meeting people who fish they are the salt of the earth. AlanPMy name is Alan Points, I'm 43 and live just outside Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk with my wife Karen (hates fishing), my oldest son William (14, used to fish a bit but now got better things to do), Laurie (10, my main fishing buddy) and Fiona (7, who comes fishing with us sometimes, but get's bored quite quickly). I work as a Project Manager for an Internet software and services company. The company sells webserver software (the bit running at the other end that responds to your PC browser and sends you the webpage you have requested), and builds hosting platforms for ISPs and large companies. If any of you donated money via the ComicRelief website last year, or have searched for anything on eBay you have been using our software. I've been in the IT industry since the early 80's, but got bored with it in the early 90's and so had a 7 year break when I ran my own Signs and Graphics business. Got bored with that, sold it and was made an offer to go back into IT. I used to fish when I was in my teens, in Essex, and came back to it about 4 years ago when William wanted to give it a go. Laurie is a lot keener than William ever was and my interest has definitely been rekindled. I don't get to go as often as I would like, but I'm sure most of us are in that position, but try to go once or twice a month. I'm purely a pleasure angler and have never match fished in my life. We normally go to one of the local lakes, and given the choice I will target Carp as I prefer ledgering to float fishing. I've never fished with a Pole but will give it a try one day. If we go on holiday near the sea I try and do a bit of beach/pier fishing, or go out on a boat for a day's fishing. I'm not a particularly skilled fisherman, but enjoy getting away from everything and relaxing by the water. It's better to catch than to not catch obviously, but almost as much as "catching" I enjoy "fishing". AlanP

LidHi After nearly 200 posts I've decided to fill one of these in. I'm not sure what to include, so will try an keep it brief. [8D] I was born in 1961, my name is Leighton and I live in Welwyn Garden City with my wife Linda and my daughter Rebecca (7). I moved here 13½ years ago when I changed career from managing a very busy quick Kall Kwik Printing centre in Oxford to working as a Computer Systems Engineer for Tesco. I was born and brought up in Oxford. My father is from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and he met my mother while he was at University in Oxford. Although they married, they didn't stay together for long and I spent a significant part of my life on my Grandparents' and uncle's farm just outside Banbury. That side of my family have been farmers and stock-men for several generations. The farm was regarded as organic and the upper stretches of the River Cherwell run through it. It has now been replaced with junction 11 of the M40. I started fishing around the age of 8 in backwaters on the farm and in ponds and small lakes nearby. I especially enjoyed catching chub. I also fished the Thames and Cherwell around Oxford. I didn't have any catches to write home about, but loved the sport. By the time I got to 18, fishing took a back seat to cider and girls. I started up again for a year or so in 1987 catching mainly chub, but I stopped when I moved to WGC. Occasionally I dabbled a bit whilst on holiday and also have done a little salmon fishing in Perthshire, where my farming Uncle and cousin have moved to. [:0] Then Rebecca became fascinated by fishing in 2002 when were in Cornwall for our the summer holiday. First it was the net and then crab fishing in the harbour. She next asked to catch small harbour fish with a rod, which we did and we also found found a nice little stream where we caught trout (and Dabs) on worms. [:)] When we came home, we found the local stretch of the River Lea and Stanborough lake and we enjoyed quite a lot of success throughout August, September and October. For example I caught 70 chub over a period of about 5 weeks out of that stretch of river. In November I had my first ever decent catch of 17 barbel (from the Lea) from a swim which still, luckily, is not thought to hold many, so as Arnie said, I'll be back. [;)] I am now well an truly hooked again and plan to do a lot more fishing both on my own and with the family when they find the weather a bit more suitable. [8D] The biggest problem I find is getting time to actually go as I always seem to have so much to do at home and work. At the moment I am on seemingly permanent D*Y duty. [:(] Lid [:)]
ApacheMatt, aka "Apache" (dont ask!) born on 05/06/87 in Reading. First went fishing at California Country Park when I was about 5/6, and my first fish was probably a rudd/roach/perch of about 3oz or so. Graduated to carp fishing when I was about 8 and caught my first double when I was 9 (12lb mirror). Started leasing a small private lake when I was 12 and have had Common and Mirror carp out to 18lb 8oz. [img]http://www.heathlandsanglingclub.8m.com/images/clevr_leather-m2.jpg[/img] No long term relationships, because of a tendency to be out saturday night (and not with the girl) and come back tired, p!ssed off (if I blanked) and smelly! Only met one girl who actually came fishing with me but she will now not talk tome after she walked in on me gutting and filleting trout in her mother's kitchen! Lol [:D] Got interested in fly fishing after going on holiday to Devon and going fishing at the sort of stocked fishery where the trout are brain dead and will eat anything. However, having an uncanny ability to have a cr@p casting action but still punch the line out, I joined Sheephouse Trout Fishery in Maidenhead about a year ago. Thanks to the fishery manager, Rob, I have had an excellent year with Rainbow trout to 8lb. http://www.sheephousetroutfishery.com Went sea fishing when I was 14 from boat and had a 28lb tope (amongst others) and several Ballan Wrasse. However living miles from the coast have been on very few occasions. http://www.heathlandsanglingclub.8m.com (: Apache :) http://www.heathlandsanglingclub.8m.com http://www.heathlandsanglingclub.8m.com/images/clevr_leather-m2.jpg

Farted around for the next 35 years or so & then bought the remnants of a tackle shop 2yrs ago-seriously curtailing my fishing[V]. 60+ hours a week doesn't leave much time for it but I get as much in as I can (& sod the paperwork). The WitnessHi, I'm Richard Atkinson, age 53,married to Frances and have one son,Douglas currently studying fashion at Middlesex University. I have lived in Flitwick,Bedfordshire since 1980 when the company I used to work for(Total Oil Reatail-used to be called Petropolis)relocated to Dunstable from Ealing. I was raised in good old Batley,West Yorks and took up fishing at the age of 5 when my grandmother lived in Lincoln. The Brayford Pool and The Fosse Dyke where were I learned to put a maggot on a hook. Living in Yorkshire soon joined Bradford City and Bradford No.1 clubs and spent lots of time on The Aire and Wharfe and also made many trips to the old Black Bull stretch on the Swale at Topcliffe. Also fished the Calder a lot which at that time was only just making a recovery.I hear now(from a barber in Batley)that barbel have been introduced(can any of you Tykes confirm?) Fishing did take a side line when I went to university in London and started working for Total. However did manage a few sessions on the tidal Thames at Richmond. When we moved to Flitwick fishing took centre stage again. My old boss was a keen angler and I soon joined the Ampthill,Vauxhall and Luton clubs. At one time I held the Luton club record for tench, caught at Beckerings Reservoir. It was in Flitwick that I met Nick Jones(Polepot)and we have been fishing together on and off for nearly 20 years. At one stage Nick and I took up fly fishing together Tingrith Coarse Fishery(where we both have annual tickets)at that time used to be a trout fishery.Tingrith being only 5 mins away from home is now a regular haunt. Nick was very keen to join in the 2003 fishing race but needed someone to verify his catches so I joined MDs and hence my nickname. For my sins I'm a member of CAMRA and have been known to down an ale or two from Dundee down to Cornwall. So if any of you MDs fancy a pint or two I'm always in the market! Cheers, Richard.
The percherHi Im Jason Tolley, 15 years old from gud ol Bolton in manchester. Started fishing at the age 0f 4-5 when i occumpanied my dad and grandad on the banks. My older brother also followed the same routine but quickly gave up and vowed never to fish again after failling to ever catch a fish. I had more enthusiasm however, and was soon catchin small roach and perch for fun! At the age of 9 i progressed onto the match scene, following some sound advice from both my dad, grandad, and uncle who is an acomplished match angler in the north, i started to become very good for my age and moved onto pole fishing, and came 3rd 2nd and finally first in bradshaw fisheries matches. I enjoyed a succesful 2 more years before taking a 2 year break as none of my friends fished. Then came the arrival of joe at my school, who shared my passion for angling, and we soon were back fishing, now after specimin catches rather than entering matches, joe although slightly inferior to me(hehe) was my sidekick on every expodition. And now i've had a cloncking 3Ib roach, 2Ib rudd,6Ib bream, A 20Ib carp, caught on the pole! pike at 15Ib and perch at 2 and a half Ib, which i'm slightly dissapointed with. However i'm looking forward to a long and succesful angling life ahead of me! [}:)]The pecher[}:)] J.Tolley

carpkillerNot Another Damn Yank!! "Carpkiller" is just a username...don't actually kill them. In fact, don't catch too many, but thoroughly enjoy the ones I get. Most of my fishing lately has been on the bays around San Diego, California. Most people in these parts fish for largemouth bass in freshwater, or they go pier or deep-sea fishing in the salt. Boats are generally off-limits for me, because I can get monumentally seasick.[xx(] So, I'm a bank fisherman, fresh and salt water. My blushing bride has become an avid fisherwoman...fisherperson..whatever, she loves to fish. She seems to prefer saltwater, because "you never know what you're going to catch." In a favorite local creek, she caught a beautiful but small mirror carp...the first one I'd ever seen, in more than 30 years of fishing. Anyway, long story short, we're adapting carp fishing techniques to our saltwater bayfishing adventures. She just bought me a rod pod for my birthday, and we own a Shimano 3500 baitrunner, and an Okuma Coronado 30 (with one more on the way, courtesy of e-bay). Not too many people around here use baitrunner-type reels...but they're ideal for baitfishing in the bays. Sometimes I get jealous of all the different tackle you guys have over there, but mostly I'm just confused my much of your terminology ("Two countries separated by a common language?") I'd really like to find a rod that's somewhere between what most of my fellow colonists use (spinning rods over 7 feet are practically nonexistant, except for the giant surf-fishing rigs) and what you guys seem to prefer (10+ feet, but made for lighter line). It probably won't happen, unless I break down and have one built. Oh well. Back to the profile: Rob Hall, San Diego County, California. 43 years old, married just the once, on May 5th, 2001. Love to fish anywhere, as long as my feet stay on solid ground--or at least, in the mud. Best day of fishing in my life was when I caught 96 wild trout, along a creek high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Best recent day's catch: When my wife and I combined for 10 spotfin croaker. Love to sneak along small streams to find fish and poison oak (a noxious plant that causes me to break out in rashes and oozing sores..maybe seasickness isn't so bad). Other interests include street and dirt motorcycles (though I haven't been riding much lately). I stumbled across your site today, and thought I might be able to learn some worthwhile stuff from you guys...Thanks for being there. Here. Whatever.
