MYSTERY PAIRS                   JAIL AND BAIL DAY

The Big Bash Report

Garbolino Lindholme Lakes

Wednesday 21st. May 2008.

Wednesday 21st. May 2008 saw 271 anglers descend upon the Garbolino Lindholme Complex, near Doncaster, to compete in the annual “Big Bash” match, organised by Kev Allen, in aid of the charity “Breast Cancer Care”, and sponsored by Carp Vader bait company.

A rolling draw from 8.00am. ensured that the endless line of hopeful anglers were all at their pegs and ready to fish for the 10.30 am “all in”.

A double blast from Lindholme Lakes owner, Neil Grantham’s shotgun, signalled the start, and a frenzy of activity burst out along the banks of Beeches, Bonsai, Laurels, Loco, Oasis, Strip, and Willows lakes, as anglers busily prepared their swims for the ensuing battle.

As the day progressed, it became apparent that the resident carp in the lakes were not in as generous a mood as the anglers participating, and many anglers were already struggling for bites.

On Beeches lake R Tuxford was on his way to a lake win with 33-04 from peg 32, and there was a peg to peg battle on pegs 14 and 15 between B Leek and T Burt, with the former coming out on top with 29-09 to 27-10. As it happened, they were the first and last pegs in their respective sections, so both benefited from £60.00 section wins.

Pegged on Bonsai Lake, Steve Rothery and B Walters were into their strides, as was match organiser, Kev Allen, 3 pegs away, who was taking mainly carp and barbel on meat and caster.

Kev lost his way when he broke the number 4 section on his Maver pole, not once, but twice, and the surrounding anglers quickly caught his early pace.

Lake and overall match-winner, B Walters was pegged on the much fancied Bonsai 67, and he made no mistake taking 74-15 to the scales for a comfortable win.

Other section winners on the Bonsai were Steve Rothery on peg 4 with 27-09, K Kirkwood on peg 13 with 46-09, P Cannon on peg 30 with 37-03, C Perbedy on peg 47 with 42-01 and R Austin from peg 75 with 40-01.

Laurels Lake was the lake to draw for more consistent weights, and S Davies on peg 59 ensured a section win and third overall with 51-09

Other section winners were K Leach from peg 4 with 23-00, D Wright from peg 28 with 39-12, and L Geldart from peg 42 with 23-08. A Woolfall also broke the 50lbs barrier, but only managed second in section.

Loco Lake proved more difficult, with R Pillastone taking 25lbs. 15oz, the lake win and his section from peg 15, closely followed with a 24lbs from Dave Watts of Teeside on peg 43, who also won his section.

Other section winners were G Wilson from peg 8 with 21-00, and P Brown on peg 28 with 8-01.

Oasis Lake was proving particularly difficult, and many anglers remained biteless after several hours.

M Bailey on peg 61 managed to amass a lake and section winning weight of 28-10, while Jim Leach on peg 2 took full advantage of an undrawn peg 1, and 24lbs. 8oz, for his section.

Other section winners were W Jerram on peg 17 with 8-07, I Widdows on peg 35 with 18-02, M Jones on peg 37 with 14-07, and S Cameron on peg 49 with 17-09.

The Strip was fishing slightly better, and John Allerton on peg 1 was busy catching small carp on pellets and caster to win the lake and an overall 2nd. place with 64lbs 8oz..

The other section winner on the Strip was  T Hurry on peg 14 with 13-09.

Willows Lake was reasonably consistent, and up and coming youngster Luke Bamford showed his elders the way with 40-12 from peg 37 to win the lake and his section.

Chris Kendall took the other section on Willows with 13-10 from peg 15.

at  the end of the day, over £6000.00 had been raised for the Charity, and with further sponsorship and DVD sales to come in, the total will be even higher.

Anyone wanting to buy a copy of the DVD of the day’s events, please contact Kev directly on 07878 706752 or visit the website www.thebigbash.co.uk. The DVDs cost £5.00 each, and all proceeds go to the charity.

There are also polo shirt available to order on request

full details on the merchandise page.

The only disappointment to the day was the number of “No Shows” as 350 anglers had booked onto the match, but 79 did not  cancel their entry or advise the organiser they were not coming. This cost the charity in excess of £800 on the day,
