About a month ago I won an old Pentacon M42 SLR lens on ebay. Yesterday was the first chance I got to play around with it and despite me still being a novice with my Nikon D3100 dSLR I was pretty pleased with the results, especially as it was the first time I had used the camera in the manual mode. Think I might try and win another bargain lens and reverse mount it if I continue to enjoy this lens. Can't really complain at £8

they say the new ones are better, but..they actualy mean the new ones will auto and scratch yu bum for yu lol.
the old lenses were glass for starters, the downside being you have to actualy do something, i.e. focus it apature it corectly, fair ddoe's the old stuff doesnt focus as smoothly from infrocus to out of focus, but when its in boy is it in!
keep yuors open for ant carl zuies you can hands on, even as far back as 1952 in one case came in at near on 2 grand on ebay! (heat treated glass is a good one). |

| Those 2 shots of the dogs are really spot on. You can't complain about the sharpness which is superb. As they say the old ones are usually the best. |

I've been keeping my eye on ebay for any M42 lens & they all go for much more than the £8 I paid for mine, either I was lucky or everybody has cottoned onto the idea. I do know of a selection of hardly used M42 lenses however, just need to get my dad to give them up & make a bit of room in his wardrobe, time for a word with Mum I think!
The good thing about the D3100 is it has an indicator in the viewfinder that tells you when the subject is in focus, helps alot. Just need to make a bit more time to play around with the lens, since I stopped working it feels like I have less spare time than more! |

I miss conventional photography!!!
The clunk of the shutter...
The manual film advance...
Only 36 attempts to grab a decent image...
The anticipation of waiting to get your pix back from the lab...
But that's past now and ur digi test exposures are v good!
I really liked the 2nd dog pic. All spot on apart from the top right red thing and a little bit of gardening needed, but ya don't usually notice such things when u r focused on the subject...
Keep on experimenting!!!

I used to have a Tamron SP90mm macro (true macro) lens and it produced unbelievably sharp images....
Pity I flogged it! :-(

I think (only my opinion ) that the picture of the "Evening Autumn Light" has a BIG distraction, with the white blobs.
A simple crop and a bit of fill light and it looks (to me) a bit more pleasing.

If I were dyslexic I wouldn't be wearing this Cat Flap would I.
catch you later, tight lines, dave....
