Hi all
I fish at a local club in Runcorn Cheshire called Weston angling & they have matches every Wednesday afternoon. In the summer months these matches are for over sixties only. As a wheelchair user I was welcomed to fish these matches last summer & really enjoyed them even though I am only in my forteis. The guys where all great & really helpful. This year however they have excluded me on the grounds that I am disabled & not over sixty. I have searched all over for other fishing clubs and can’t find any that have concessionary mid weed matches for oap or over sixties that don’t include disabled anglers. Has anyone heard of this happening at any other club’s? Or is it just these lot are really miserable.

Well your not over sixty disabled or not?? Don't see what the Problem is, they extended a courtesy last yr, maybe more people are fishing the matches this year or they want to reduce numbers, at the end of the day it's up to the club

It's not discrimination either! If it were an open and they wouldn't let you fish because of your disability, it would be, but you ain't sixty so you don't meet the entry criteria, I love how you try and make it sound like they are picking on you by using the word discriminate lol

ph2kuk,

It seems to me some member has spat the dummy and stuck to what it says 60 plus and they cocked up last season in breaking that 60 plus status.

If you was nearer you would be most welcome to fish with us.

To be honest, I don't really see the problem here. The match is for over 60's, on your own admission you are not over 60. Owing to the fact that you have a disability, someone decided that you should be allowed to fish last year, this I think is condesending on their part. I have many friends with disabilities and they would be the first people to say they do not want special concessions, but to be treated as equals.

I have seen (and I think bucko has too!) disabled people in their "twilight of life" enter into abled bodied matches - not asking for any quarter because they were mostly under 40 - And beating the PANTS off them!!

Thing about Work, is no matter how much you do,it will still be there long after you are gone, and when you are out of work and have the time to go fishing, you can't afford to,and when you are in work and you can afford to go fishing, you don't have the time.
There must be a happy medium there somewhere.

Bucko matey - always glad to scrounge a day off for fishing but all my favours are being saved up for the time I need off for the Paralympics to do my officials job for the wheelchair fencing.

I do hope that next year (Mrs permitting!) I will be available for more fishing (notice I refrain from using the word catching...)

Noone organises a match like you Bucko you are a legend!

Message to Dirk, Bucko and Bliss -

Anytime you guys want a days fishing at my local (Stanboro lake, aka The Gloucester Old Spot lake) in Cheltenham, I would be happy to have you here.
By the way, if you want to overnight, they have a B&B (and a pub across the road)
