Did he give it a maggot or two as way of apology?

What do you do if this unfortunate incident happens? I started bringing him in but the mother duck was going mad. I managed to get him in so far and cut the line but I appreciate this is far from ideal.

Its never happened to me before and I don't fancy it happening again.

Mat

You should of unhooked it really but you live and learn,i've seen this happen when people leave bait on their topkits while on a roost or lay down, always take the bait off.

I hooked a baby coot once.
(Thread on here somewhere)...

....Scary ****.
Swallowed the hook into its throat.
There was no blood, but even with a fine disgorger, I couldn't get to the hook.
Had to force its gob open and cut the line just above the hook.
It hung around for an hour or two in front of my swim, with its parents and swam off okay....so I pray it was going to be okay.

Two bird encounters to mention. Whilst fishing a junior match on the K.S.D many years ago cast the wag out and when it didn't hit the water looked up to see a swallow or swift not sure which slowly spiraling to the water. Bird returned to freedom no probs. But a couple of seasons ago the tip ripped round whilst fishing the feeder and knew at once this wasn't a bream. The fish swam steadily to my right getting shallower all the time, then the water erupted and a greeb tried to take to the air. The carp angler who's swim it surfaced popped out of his bivvy laughing his head off and did the landing net duty, then said leaving it to you now.He knew what to expect me thinks, as soon as i took the net from over the top of it i had a 4" dagger of a beek stabbed in the back of my hand drawing blood. The towell then went over its head and a knee across its neck as i took the hook out of the webbing of its foot. Killed the fishing, not another bite all day.

i fished a match at Woodlands in Thirsk. Far bank, hooked a duck. Then another anlger on far bank hooked a duck. Oh how i laughed until..... you guessed it, I hooked a duck. Good hold right in the tounge as well. Fortunatley, the guy next to me wasnt doing much and gave me a hand to net and unhook it.

At the recent MD & Platt Bridge match at charity farm there was an adult duck going around with a rig and elastic attached to it.
