have a look at the catfish conservation group you will find lots of tips there. make sure you use a good abrasive resistant hooklength like catlink kevlar or quicksilver and not a wire trace. your best bet is to ask a baliff or a few people on your lake who fish for them they might be able to point you in the right direction i have been doing well with squid and luncheon meat at the moment or try a lively popped up if they are allowed. you havent got long left the cats have started to slow down on one of the lakes i fish and i have started to get more pike
 be prepared to blank |

I've had a good year with the cats this year , and I'm currently penning an article about misconceptions that I had before I had a serious crack at them The biggest shock I got was that they are SURFACE feeders and 95% of my fish have come to a livebait on a dumbell rig fished with the bait inches under the surface, and that is when fished in fair competition with squid on one rod, dumbelled livey on one , and meat ot liver on another. They are absolutely amazing creatures , power is unbelievable , amke sure you tackle up with the right gear, I lost one last year that broke 15lb like cotton and have now stepped up to 18lb Sensor and had no problems. Make sure your rigs are TOTALLY resistance free, forget swingers, hangers etc and fish with your reels just open bale arms.... good luck and welcome to the ***** HUNTERS!!!! |

lasy year i had lots of cats on the top with livelys but this year i havent had one there are alot of carpers throwing kilos upon kilos of boilies and pellets in and that is keeping the cats on the bottom thats were i have been getting them. i use sensor 18lb on my pit reels and sufix 15lb duo core on my bait runners i would highly recommend both as only been snapped on the zebra mussel beds make sure you have got a big unhooking mat to lay them on is it a day ticket water or a club water you are fishing?

all waters are different and there is no set rule but i start fishing for them in the spring and stop in late autumn when we have the first frosts.there is a saying " when the bats are out the cats are out " it has always worked for me over the years but i know people have caught a few through out the winter have a look at the catfish conservation group forum you will find alot of information there good luck

wshad. STILL NO BLOODY CATS. I fished 21mm hailbut pellet, prawns, mussels and lobs with a PVA bag filled with pellets and all I caught were Carp and Tench. I will look at the catfish conservation group forum and remember " when the bats are out the cats are out ". I WILL KEEP TRYING TO CATCH ONE OR MORE. Thank you for your help and Its great to have another bedfordian on maggot drowning. |

keep at it. it took me 5-6 trips to get my 1st one, is there many cats where you fish ? if there's only a few expect to blank a lot. if your getting alot of carp and tench try a dead/livebait on one rod with chopped fish sections thrown around it (if allowed) in the margins or on the bottom of the shelf
