I have my first job interview/assessment day tomorrow.
It's a 2 day selection process. Last weekend I got through the first stage which was a practical assessment and have been short listed for tomorrow. Tomorrow has a driving test (to DSA standard in a large van), medical assessment, 20-30 minute fitness test, a scenario based assessment, a question and answer based scenario and then an interview
I've been working hard over the last few days thinking about questions and answers and learning the organisation's "vision" to answer the inevitable question "why do you want to work for us". Somehow I'm thinking that "because you're recruting" or "because your local" won't suffice
Got myself a brand new suit which cost me an arm and a leg but I think it's a benefit to feel good and confident
Now it's down to the luck of the day I guess! Early night for meeeee

| Good luck! I don't envy you 2 days, having just gone through a 2 day interview myself. Keep calm, think, and try and stay as natural and calm as you can. Then go for a pint at the end! |
To fish or not to fish, that is the question. Think carefully before you answer... |

The best answer I ever had to this question was something along the lines of:
"Because I think I can contribute to this company, and help it go forward. And I think the company can do the same for me."
But from what you've described, by the time I got to the interview stage, I'd be dead anyway. So I probably wouldn't have much to contribute after that stage.
Good luck, wish you well!

Thanks folks
It's been a hectic couple of weeks for me with final hand in on 4th July, my sister's fiance's stag weekend on the 5th July and then on top of that practice placement shifts and revision for the selection days! lol
Still, this time next week I'll be out of my misery!

I prefer my odds now than this time last week! |

Hi folks,
Sadly I failed one of the assessments this morning and my application has now been put onto reserve. If the trust fail to fill the vacancies from those interviewed or if my 5 other assessments were significantly better than a candidate who has passed all of the scenarios but only just scraped through, I will be called back for a resit.
I am really annoyed at myself because my clinical knowledge was incredible today but I got myself in a muddle and my mind went blank during an exam/scenario.
Anyway, not to worry I've learnt from it and will move on.
Thanks for all the good wishes,
Ed |

Hi all,
I just thought I would post a little bit of an update on this. I got called back because I had done better on the 5 assessments I did pass than some others who had just scraped through on all the assessments. Today I went back and did a resit on the objective structured clinical exam (OSCE) and got top marks for it this time.
And, the good news, I got an instant job offer. I have accepted a position in the West Midlands (Birmingham & Black Country) and start in October!!! Happy is an understatement |

| Get in fella! That is awesome news!!!!! I have secured a job on endocrinology however have an interview for a band 5 post in A&E next week! It is my dream job for the time being and if i am honest the first step in my career plan so really have to impress and if i get the job i will be over the moon to say the least!!!! I want to become an ENP so A&E is the first step for me. So pleased for you Ed I am sure you will be ace, a steep learning curve to be sure but you will be out with an experienced professional who you can learn tons from. Be confident and competent and you will not go wrong (also as a paramedic think outside of the box at times! I'll pm you). Good work and massive congratulations once again! |
