Its all about balance with the elastic in your pole, also if you have snags in the swim, time of year, how finicky the fish are etc. Cheers |

| id say 3/4lb mainline then a slightly lower hooklength. unless the venue is snaggy or theres a chance of catching something bigger then id use up to a 6lb mainline. |

| I'd probably fish either 0.16mm bottom or 0.14mm depending on the amount of snags. Mainline would probably be 0.16mm. |

good thread OP. I've been struggling this week with carp upto about 10lb on the pole. I was advised to go for the pink elastic. using 6lb main, i have been snapped on several occasions so ive stepped up to 10lb main with 8inch 7lb hooklength. The elastic is now taking some serious gyp! and appears to have stretched! Is it right for about 15ft of elastic to be out? Just wondering if any one has found a really good balance ie elastic/line for carp that tear off like marlin whilst fishing over about 7 pole sections? ta in advance. |

| All my carp rigs and hooklengths are 0.17. |
Average club angler who seems to get the right methods sorted halfway through a match, just in time to say "if only" |

5lb straight through would probably be more than enough for that sort of fishing will_60. |
