I.M.O TAX on savings should be Abolished, people have already paid tax on it as they earned it,they are taxed again when they spend it,so what bit they manage to save should be TaX FREE.

| And the millionaires who pay little tax on their income to start with? |
Average club angler who seems to get the right methods sorted halfway through a match, just in time to say "if only" |

| As a newly (2 years) self employed person ive just had my first tax bill this year. Didnt earn as much as i did when i was employed but still covered £25K in my first year. The way the accountants can write stuff towards expenses and business debts etc is amazing. my bill this year was £750 tax. The downside is you have to pay next years 50% in advance before youve earnt it! Still, providing the work keeps coming in, im much better off self employed, not even mentioning the better family balance. (doesnt always apply - some SE people are stressed to breaking point) |

| Savings are being whittled down each year by rising inflation and falling interest rates, I expect that after tax it isn't worth saving anything for a rainy day, in fact the rainy day is here now so spend it while you can cause it won't be worth much in the future. |

You go to work and earn a wage which you pay TAX on. Your wages go into the bank and you pay TAX again. You buy food, you pay TAX on the food that youve bought You buy petrol you pay TAX on that. You pay your utility bills and you pay TAX on that Every time you spend money you pay tax over and over again with money youve already been taxed on that youve earnt90% of that money youve earnt actually goes on tax, if it didnt then your wages would go ALOT further, This is why its so expensive to live. |

Simon,
This is why you also have a National Health Service that, despite what you may think,is the envy of many countries. This is why you have a welfare state that helps those in need, although there are the obvious abusers of the system much reported by the Daily Mail.
Nothing is perfect, but also nothing is free. All the things we take for granted, like emergency services, street lighting and roads, medical provisions etc...they all cost money and need to be paid for.
If you didn't pay for them with the tax system we have now, you would certainly pay for them in some other way and probably the same amount of money.
We've just had 4 days celebrating everything that is Great about our country. Don't always listen to the doom mongers and the gutter press tabloids. We have a country to be proud of, despite it's minor faults, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

How would all this be possible without taxation?
Some people can't see how fortunate we all are that we don't live in anarchy, diseased, malnourished, ruled by warlords and with very short life expectancies |
