Hi All, Report and results from the 4/aside. Well 31 made it to the 4/aside which at one point in the week working up to the match l had my wonders, phone calls galore to try and pick up anglers to keep it to eight teams and we did. The weather when we left Towcester was dismal to say the least and thought well John it is the weekend, so of we set wife in tow it only takes me 40 minutes now as the motor knows the way by now and l just put it on auto pilot and we are there. Some had already arrived and as soon as they se me they new l wanted their monies and of course they was right, but breakfast came first and right they was, all booked in and all paid up and some phoned around to make team one up to full strength but it was not to be. Captains drew there envelopes and distributed pegs to his team l must get Matt Nutt in my team next year, and off we went Roger Embery (Redhat) drove the gatter transporting any disabled anglers kit which from all disabled anglers who fished many thanks go to him. The five hours produced windy conditions a few showers and some fish, results are as follows FIRST Team Eight
Alibag 9lbs 04ozs
Unlucky 11lbs 02ozs
Matt Nutt 68lbs 04ozs
Steve Parker 13lbs 01oz (Guest)
Total Weight 101lbs 11ozs SECOND Team Six
Ejayar 29lbs 03ozs
Steve Wilson 12lbs 03ozs
Slimshadey 13lbs 08ozs
Kevin Folwell 38lbs 04ozs (Guest)
Total 93lbs 02ozs THIRD Team Two
Mark Causer 21lbs 04ozs
Fish4alarf 7lbs 01oz
Steak 10lbs 02ozs
Glen Ribbons 44lbs 04ozs (Guest)
Total Weight 82lbs 11ozs Fourth Team Four
Simplesimon 18lbs 12ozs
Sprucey 29lbs 14ozs
Jake1969 27lbs 00oz
Gary Leake 2lbs 00oz (Guest)
Total Weight 77lbs 10oz Fifth Team Seven
Genus9 23lbs 03ozs
KOD 20lbs 01oz
Redhat 16lbs 02ozs
Mick Ribbons 10lbs 02ozs (Guest)
Total Weight 69lbs 08ozs Sixth Team One
Ulladubulla 13lbs 06ozs
Badatfishing 13lbs 04ozs
Smasher 18lbs 06ozs
AN Other 16lbs 00oz
Total weight 63lbs 00ozs
Seventh Team Three
Drynet 10lbs 12ozs
Ed 10 13lbs 03ozs
Badpegpicker 12lbs 12ozs
Archie Osborne 13lbs 04ozs (Guest)
Total Weight 49lbs 15ozs
Eighth Team Five
B.M.E 08lbs 12ozs
TK 08lbs 00oz
Bucko 2lbs 14ozs
Ray Cox 3lbs 03ozs (Guest)
Total weight 22lbs 13ozs
And of course the individual winner on the day who picks up the Golden Maggot was presented again to the 2007 winner Matt Nutt with a weight of 68lb.04 who l must say drew well on the day but you cannot take it away from the guy he can surly fish well done to him. I would like some input for 2009 if you still are up for it perhaps to encourage more interest from others to partake or venue etc. The Raffle on the day raised £74.00 the winning teams where given the choice which charity it went to and they decided it would go to the Danglers charities Macmillan Cancer Support and The Rainbow Hospice in Loughborough we would like to thank all M.Ds and guest for that kind donation from the Disabled-angler.co.uk.
Also the meal after the match was not included in your £10.00 up front and your £10.00 pools on the day to those it may concern.
If any other MD wants to add any more to my report then please do so.
Bucko.

Hi guys, Lust a quick one from me for the moment.
Well done everyone on making it a great day yet again
Ok, so the weather was a bit poo (thats 2 years on the trot we ve had the wind! ), but it was well worth it.
Good to meet up with a few old faces, and to meet other new ones. I ll post a quick report of my day later. As soon as I manage to resize them, I will stick a couple of the pics I took on my phone. They arent great, but at least we will have something to look at

Well, after trying desperately for the last couple of hours, SimpleSimon will be glad to know that I havent been able to get the pics from my phone onto here, and you wont all get to see his raffle prize of "His N Hers mug" thingy's Though I must say, I thought they looked just his cup of tea!!!
Cup of tea? Get it? ....... Sorry.
Still, My day went as well as I epected it to. I woke up to bright sunshine, it was fairly warm, and only a slight breeze Hmmm.....
By the time myself and Unlucky had arrived at Holly farm, we had been through sunshine, wind and rain! The wind was starting to get up by the time of the draw, and I knew which peg I DIDNT want...peg 26. Ive never done any good round that way, and 26 has always looked nice, but Ive not known it to produce much.
Our illustrious Capt.Drynet handed me the envelope with the last 2 remaining pegs....... Yes!!!!!!!
26 I couldnt believe it. Ive got the screen name for a reason you know!
Oh well, the long trek was worth it. I sat in a virtual mill pond for most of the day, while others around were battling the wind. Not that it helped. I had nothing in the net after 2 hours, and then a solitary Crucian hung itself
I got that bored after the 3rd hour that I decided to have a bash at the silvers. I managed about 3 tiny perch and a roach, and then I spied a huge Ghostie in the left corner.......in went a shallow rig, and Bang!!! I hooked a fish!! "That ghostie must be 6lb +" I thought. Unfortunately, as the fish gave up the fight I realised it was a small mirror! Eh?
Oh well, I was off at last. Not for long though. I sat biteless until the last half hour, with not even as much as a duck to keep me company Then I managed to snare 3 more small carp from the left hand side for a total of 12 lb 12 oz. As Simon and myself went round doing the weigh in on our half (cheers for the help mate), it was clear that the higher and lower numbers had done much better than our section, and it was nice to see some fish- even if they werent in my nets!
And of course, weighing in Matts catch was a nice end to the day too. Well done mate!!
It wasnt all bad news though, as I mangaed to "nick" my quid back from Steak
Steve, Its still sat here mate, waiting for its next outing
Again, well done Bucko, and helpers. Great day as usual.
Roll on next year |

Ok - I'm caught up at work now, so here goes ............
The day starts with the alarm hammering away at 04.45 hours , and I wake up to a bright, sunny morning - brilliant
I check the bait in the outhouse, and without their lifejackets, the crickets look like they've lost Buddy Holly again.
I turn my attention to my casters, which look perfect - how could any self-respecting carp refuse them ? Worms are good, meat looks good, and I throw in a loaf of bread "just in case".
Primed with strong coffee, I start the 110-mile journey, and drive through grey clouds, black clouds, heavy rain, more grey clouds, then sunshine again, and arrive at Holly Farm to find Smasher salivating at the gates . "I thought you were getting breakfasts in mate" is his greeting.
What a start.
Breakfast is demolished , and I meet up with our captain Mark, Fish4alarf and our guest named Glen Ribbons.
A quick team talk confirms our names and pegs, and our team plan is "catch loads of fish".
I arrive at peg 10, and it looks ok, and peg 9 appears to be un-drawn. Whoopee.
As I am almost finished setting up, Alibag (the spy from the previous week) arrived, and plonks his gear in peg 9. Bugger
All in ........... here we go .............
Holly Farm feed pellet is carefully cupped tight to the far bank, followed by a hair rigged 4mm cube of meat - and I await my first bite . And wait, and wait and wait . Something is not right.
Meantime I had been feeding a 5m line with caster, so a quick look there - nothing.
Oh $h1t, the plan has gone pear shaped.
Then I remember the loaf of bread.
A change of rig, and a chunk of breadflake is plopped close to the reeds . 10 seconds later the float buries and we have a carp - wooooopeeeeeee.
Then the wind arrives causing 14.5m of pole to resemble a hairpin.
Back to the caster line, and hey, a roach, and another, and another.
Wind drops , back to the reeds with the flake and 10 seconds later - carp 2. More wind - more caster/roach, then bang - this is no roach , and after a brief tussle, a tench of around a pound is in the net.
This continued right to the end of the match, with me sneaking a carp on flake whenever I could keep the bait still for 10 seconds at the far bank, if not, back to the caster/roach.
The match ends , and Alibag is trying to peep into my net to see what I've got .
The scales confirm he has 9lbs 4oz and I have 10lbs 2oz (I love roach). The lad to my left has been battered by the wind all day, and weighs 2lbs +.
I'm feeling good.
A quick look in the bait bag finds the crickets partying like 1999. "We thought you were going to stick hooks in our ar$es and throw us in the lake", says chief cricket with relief. "No, I'm a MaggotDrowner, not a CricketDrowner" came the reply as I release the crickets back into the wild.
Attacking a burger in the cafe , I find our captain has excelled with 21lbs+, and our guest God Glen Ribbins has weighed in with 44lbs . Adding me and Fish4alarf we have amassed 82lbs 11oz and 3rd. place.
I pay Smasher and Badpegpicker their respective shinnys (both gave me a sound whupping), and then waft my £25.00 share of the team winnings at them.
110 miles home ?
No problem.
Thoroughly enjoyed the day - big thank you to Bucko for organising this, and I will be back next year.
Smasher and BPP, keep those shinnys warm for me.

Hi Guys
Okay anglers are already saying looking forward to next year, are you still up for the same venue same pool or do you want some where else if so l need input and comments. To be honest Holly Farm has all we need good breakfast, hospitality etc just some good weather and is July a good month to have it.
Give me you comments as we must book early to get in.

I would do it again but would prefer it if the winners were decided by section points rather than total weight. More fair and it saves 1 guy bagging up and winning for the team Matt Just my thoughts. |

Im up for the same venue, but perhaps a try on Trotters? Cant remember how many pegs are on that pond though. Might be worth having a look at a different venue though, just to ring the changes a bit, and to give others a chance of a shorter journey.
How about Makins? Plenty of water to get at, and if you went on phase 3, there are very few long walks. Though there arent any brekkie facilities. |

I agree with the section points idea, with weight as a decider. A much fairer way of deducing the outcome.
Holly farm as a venue gets my vote though, just minus the wind if you can. I nearly took buckos head off twice when it gusted and i let go of 14.5 metres! |

As others have said Bucko Holly is still a good choice,
But I have to agree it would be a lot fairer if it was decided on section points thus those in less favoured sections would still be fishing for points leaving them something to fish for.
Just My six penneth though John. |

I agree that section points is a much fairer way to do it.
Regarding venues, I don't really mind, any of the previously mentioned venues are fine, such as Woodland View, Makins, or even Holly Farm again
What about Molands Mere at Packington Summers or Tunnel Barn Farm?
Looking forward to next year regardless of venue |

Seems like section points could be the only minor change needed Bucko, everything else was spot on, venue, hospitality, prizes etc, maybe a word with the weatherman might help
Back to the venue, if I am there again next year Holly farm will be great. There are several others in with a shout though, Woodland View and Packington Somers have both been mentioned, both have excellent facilities and both would do us proud I'm sure.
Barston lakes and Moorlands farm (silver pool?) also have good facilities, just getting the right pegs on the day might take some working out.
Good luck with the deciding vote

Agree that section points is the way to go to make it truly a team match. As for venues don't mind any of those mentioned except Barston ( I just don't like it fishing wise ). Nice to meet more Maggotdrowners and teamwise finish in 3rd place for the 2nd year running |

Hi Bucko
As regards doing the match on section points spot on, its by far the fairest way
Holly farm is still an Ideal venue but I agree with BPP. Trotters would be the better lake to fish, as on a day like we had, you could still catch on the method, and not everyone has a 14m pole it allows everyone the chance of competing.

Hi Bucko,
I'm happy with Holly Farm, I think it's a good venue (saying that - I've only fished it twice).
Section points would be better to determine placings - but other than that, roll on next year !

Hi Guys
Many thanks for the input points will decide the winning team next year thats no problem.
On the venue l must plum for Holly Farm as it is more central taking into consideration Smasher coming all the way from Grimsby okay that is only one but it is alot nearer than Woodland View and using that as an example and how many more would it involve in the tavelling.
Trotters was mentioned it has 40 pegs on the pool and holds a bigger fish plus a bit more varierty l have done this match two years know and l have struggled to get 8 teams and had to involve guests to make the numbers up so as it is at the moment trotters would be big enough to take 8 teams of 4, Gils pool will costs £200 for 09 for the whole pool as Trotters costs £150, as many knows Trotters fishes better with 30/35 anglers as some pegs cross each other so is it a risk to book and hope we dont get a rush of M.Ds wanting to fish the 4/aside and that has been my intention right from the start more M.Ds HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. Packington Somers has it all but they need a large deposit up front.
I will decide by the weekend and hope you all back me up.
Bucko.
