hadn't written much about white springs been rather busy working
my dad asked me to report about the new match record set last week
i looked for my thread of reports but they had been archived http://www.maggotdrowning.com/forum...&whichpage=2
so i thought i'd start a new one and start nagging my dad for some more photos and reports
with a rather sudden and welcomed weather change apart from people getting sun burned as reported in other threads the fishing improved drastically
over the easter weekend there were two records broken there was a friendly match on the match lake where there was a 162lb bag taken by tony wade in a 6hr match off peg 7
tony was using size 4mm soft hook pellet and maggot the whole match he never changed his tactic from the off, with a constant trickle of the white springs green pellet
second was maggot drowners and fish4wales forum member nick williams on peg 15 with 109lb 8oz using maggot and pellet
i said there were two records set
the other was set on a the specimen carp lake with Darren Walton on peg 2 landing 14 double figure carp in a sesion five over 20lb
and during the same session jeff davies on peg 8 landed 6 carp at 28lb, 27lb 14oz, 16lb 2oz, 16lb, 15lb 8oz, and a 14lb 14oz all of jeffs carp fell to strawberry jam flavoured bollies
and on the canals the perch have been coming out with quite a large number of 4lb fish caught already in 2007

hopefully over the next few weeks if the fishing stays like this i will be quite busy reporting

The inaugural Wales Carp Masters is taking place during the summer of 2007
the next match and entry to the wales carp masters at White Springs is
8th and 10th june
there are several fisheries in wales taking place and each fishery can enter several pairs
there's still places available to enter this prestigous competition
the fish put up a good appearance helping
Hayley Morgan & Paul Thomas into a place at the final at the first match
with a 6 fish total weight of 117lb 6 oz
including a 28lb 6oz, 27lb, 19lb, 16lb 6oz, 14lb, and 12lb 8oz
It is hoped that this fantastic new event will attract carp anglers from right across the globe, and will become an extremely popular event, well supported within Wales. We are very confident that the prize table of £20,001 will elevate the Wales Carp Masters instantly to a standing of one of the richest carp-angling tournaments in the world.

RE: CELTIC LAKES
I am writing to you to let you know of the incredible time we had over the weekend of 18th-20th may at CELTIC LAKES. We entered the competition for the WELSH CARP MASTERS and this wonderful Place was our venue for the qualifying round.
I have never been there before as its 70 mile from where we live in the Neath area, but the next fishing trip we go on will be back there. The owner of CELTIC LAKES is JOHN CARNEY, he was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. He picked up food for us at the local chip shop and brought it to us at the lake; before the competition started he laid on hot food and hot drinks and during the weekend brought us stake and beef rolls to the swim.
He is a lovely family man with a great family around him. All the help at the lake TRACEY (Johns wife) JOHN (Johns son), JUDY, ANDREW, & THE 2 JASONS, Were very nice people, nothing was too much trouble for any of them.
The Lake and the surrounding banks were clean and tidy; the fish were hard Fighting and well looked after. The fishery is set in beautiful country side and the scenery was fantastic. I am not the type of person to type letters but this one had to be written as we were both blown away by the CELTIC LAKES experience.
We went on to win the round and will now fish the final on the 18th – 20th September. We also set a new Welsh Record of 512 lb for a 40 hour competition.
We are looking forward to the final and looking forward to seeing our new friends at Celtic Lakes.
The future of welsh fishing is CELTIC LAKES.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter
PHILIP MATTHEWS AND TERRY HUGHES
" END QUOTE
There's a strong possibility that Sky Sports will be filming the final as negotations have been underway because of the size of the prize money
