Geoff, i dont know the significance of the flags with as you rightly
pointed out no red cross of St,George, but i will pose the question next time i visit...

Tell me mate, how come when you always just decide to have a dabble you have a red letter day,,

Andy,
1st, pick your fishery,I'm probably fortunate that down here in the SE I have any number of high quality day-ticket fisheries available.

2nd,Midweek there is far less pressure on the water (I had the lake to myself on Thursday) and after 2-3 days it will have recovered from any pressure at the weekend.

3rd,I'm a better Angler than you

Spud,
Pegs 3&4 are my favorites, but most of the pegs have some sort of feature to fish to,and don't neglect the margins.

WELL WHERE SHALL I START? BEGGINING I THINK!

THIS WAS ON KEADBY CANAL....
WELL IT WAS MY FIRST FISHING MATCH, AND I HAD MY DAD SAT NEXT TO ME HELPING ME OUT SET HIS GEAR UP COS I DIDN'T HAVE ANY GEAR. WELL I HAD A 13M POLE FEEDER ROD AND A WAGGLER I USED THE POLE AT FIRST JUST TO SEE WHERE THE SHELVES WERE ND TO BAIT UP USING THE CUPPING KIT. AFTER ABOUT 1 HOUR ON THAT AND COUGHT A FEW PERCH. I SWITCHED TO MY FEEDER ROD I STARTED OFF WITH SINGLE RED MAGGOT AND BROWN CRUMB WITH VANILLA ESSENCE GROUNDBAIT I CASTED IT INTO THE WATER AND WAITED FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES THEN BROUGHT IT OUT AGAIN THIS TIME I USED SAME GROUNDBAIT BUT USED DOUBLE RED MAGGOT. I CASTED IT INTO THE WATER ONCE AGAIN, AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES I HAD A BREAM BITING AND NIBBLING I JUST KEPT IT THERE AND THEN I SAW THE ROD GO AND IT WAS OFF I BROUGHT IT IN WITHIN ABOUT 2 YDS OF THE LANDING NET AND THEN DISASTER STRUCK THE HOOK CAME OUT THE FISH'S MOUTH I FELL BACKWARDS THE LEG SYSTEM CAME LOOSE AND THEN I MANADGED TO GET BACK UP AND THERE IT WAS...... JUST LAYING THERE O THE SURFACE AS IF IT WERE DEAD. I ASKED MY DAD IF HE COULD STILL GET IT BUT HE WAS F`ING AND BLINDING I ASKED HIM AGAIN AND THIS TIME HE HEARD ME HE WAS AMAZED THAT IT WAS STILL THERE ANY WAY HE PICKED THE ANDING NET BACK UP AND JUST SCOOPED THE FISH UP INTO THE LANDING NET.

THE WORD SOON TRAVELLED UP THE BANK AND I WAS FAMOUS WITHIN MINUTES. IT CAME TO THE WAY IN AND I WAS V.NERVOUS BUT WHEN THEY GOT TO ME IT WAS ONE OF MY PERSONAL BEST`S 2.8bl SO I WON A PRIZE OF MY CHOICE AND A VERY HAPPY DAD.

Date.....er today....3rd May
Venue..Parklands Coarse Fishery...
Situated...Near Northallerton N.Yorks off the Yafforth road....
Weather...Clear blue skies...breezy...waves like the North Sea...

Hi all -- Well this is my first trip since l went with that well known gnome..< Norm >....about 4 weeks ago... alrite Norm me ol mucker..
Got a call from a fellow md and friend Phil Ayers....asking if l wanted to go to this fishery for a bash.... why not l said...its been along time since l wet a line......
Well Phil arrived here about 8.15 this morning curtosy of his friends mini bus.....so we now have transport and its cheaper than taxis !!!!!...
Got to the venue to find it had a right ol chop on from left to right...this venue is cut in half by a island but one side is pole suitable...the other only the ends are...
We decided to try the left side as its feeder friendly, and the pole swims were taken anyway....so we set up our usual gear.... and l used Drennan feeders cut down to take only 15 or so maggots...trouble was it took a age to get my first bite... and missed it.....the fish were very finicky, due to all the downpours we had yesterday l guess.....
But in the end l had a wrap and a willow sized mirror came skimming to the surface...yup l didnt blank..
I had a few bites during the day but they were very hard to hit....by the time we packed up..l had 3 fish 2 carp biggest a pound..and 3 points to the fishing race a rudd !!!!!!...Phil foul hooked a pastie carp.....and didnt blank....and we suffered allday with unhittable bites.....the wind died during the mid morning...and we actually saw the bites for once..... didnt help matters though.....

There were quite a few anglers there today....one had 15 pole caught tench and carp to 2lb.....in the sheltered peg...
Another had a waggler caught 8lb ghostie ......everyone else struggled.....the bloke who had 15 fish had been there close to 9hrs....so you can see how hard it was.......

We left there at 4.45pm......continplating our next possible trip...to Elvington....hmmmmm.....could be fun...

Cheers all....

MOOKSTER...

Tri Nant, near Llantrisant, South Wales

On Sunday 4th May a few of us met up at 8am by the Royal Mint in Llantrisant South Wales, on our way to fish at Tri Nant. The intrepid few were myself, PoleRoller2003 (Chris) hence named pole breaker for reasons that will become apparent later, Hector, Dai fish, and my passenger, Brian Bevan from Brynmill Angling Club, who I met at Cefnmabley and lives in Swansea.

After a short chat and introductions amongst those meeting for the first time, we followed Dai to the fishery as he was the only one to have fished it before.

This is a fairly new course fishery, previously a trout complex. There is a public house on the complex which also does Bed and Breakfast, with outside toilets. Fishing cost £5 a day, barbed hooks and keep nets are the only bans.

I set up a pole to fish 11 metres to the island, where there was18 inches of water with approximately 36 inches at 7 metres. Brian set up next to me but after plumbing the depth and only finding 6 – 12 inches the whole 11 metres decided to move to where he had deeper water.

I started with double caster on the hook and had a mirror carp of approximately a pound after 10 minutes, followed by another on banded pellet, then all went quiet. Brian was catching small stuff regularly in his new swim, in five put ins he had 5 different species.

Meanwhile as Hector was have a dire day of it Chris connected with a carp of 4lb and Dai managed to show us all how to do it by landing a carp of 8lb 6oz. Chris has been having a few misfortunes of late, breaking a top three at White Springs during the week. Today unfortunately the wind caught his pole roller and blew it over and snapped his no4 section. Hence the change of nickname.

At 2 in the afternoon I decided to move to find more water as it seems the wind had driven the fish a bit deeper. I found a swim with 6 feet at 11 metres potted in two balls of groundbait and one pot of small pellets and hemp. At the same time I began loose feeding pellet, hemp and caster into a margin swim 5 metres to my right. With nothing doing at 11 metres I tried the margin swim using double caster and soon connected with a nice common of about 2 lb. This was followed by another 3 in quick succession.

Brian also baited a margin swim and using cat food pulled in about 10 carp up to 3 lb in weight.

At 6pm, with Brian having to get back as he was working nights, we packed up. I ended the day with 11 carp, the largest being about 3 lb in weight, and four fingerling perch while Brian finished with 5 tench, a rudd, perch, roach and about 13 carp.

Hector finally broke his blank with a carp of about 2lb 8 oz.

Altogether a nice enjoyable day, as ever the company was great and hopefully we can all meet again at Sylen Lakes, Llanelli next Sunday.

Date: Sunday 4th May
Venue: 3 Pound Pond
Well this is my first write up so bare with me please.
Went up here today at 9am with my mate, 3 Pound Pond is a small farm pond on a ledge in the middle of a field with hardly any cover at all.
Stocks:
Carp to 5lb
Ide to 1lb
Tench to 12oz
Crucians to 12oz
Rudd and Golden Rudd

This is my spot, my mate there (George) just streching
Decided to set up my 6 meter whip, and with the wind behind me It was easier to cast towards the reeds loose feed casters and maggots with red maggot or yellow maggot on hook, also through in some micro pellets to get Tench and Crucians in the area.
Had first bite after about 10mins, a nice Ide, followed by another, and another... and so on then all went dead on maggot, so put on a worm, instant response, 3 Tench then changed back to maggot and had a stream of Ide and little Crucians and then a beautiful Golden Rudd.
Finished with a 10lb bag of Ide to about 12oz, 3 Tench, 2 Crucians, 2 Rudd and a Golden Rudd.

Not Bad at all, very fun

fished a open on sunday at drayton, 4th may drew peg 37 on the dam wall. It was a bright sunny day but fairly windy. Set up was a straight forward method feeder 8lb ironsilk mainline with 6lb hooklength(3" long) tied to a size 12 star point.
Groundbait was my on mix laced with swimstim 3mm pellets and a few 6mm pellets same as hook bait. Started with 4 red maggots on hook and cast out about 50 yards. There was a fish caught to my left after about 10mins of the whistle going shortley followed by another. one caught on corn the other on bread. after 45mins of no action on maggots i changed over to 2 pellets (these are a bit different)and cast out to the same area. the responce was instant and soon had a niece 8lb mirror in the net. After another hour i was up to 5 carp in the net and 3 that spat the hook, one of which was proberley touching the 20lb mark and did not like the look of the landing net (gutted).
Caught steaderly through the next few hours with a few fish beeing caught around me.In the last hour pegs 38 @ 39 started to catch regulary and were hooking up every cast. This is it i thought there both going to catch me up and pip me at the weigh in. the whisle went at 3.30 and it was time to weigh in. the top end of our stretch strugled with the fist 7 or 8 blanking. the next peg had one fish on the wag. Top weight done to the last 3 pegs was around 50lb. I was next to weigh and was well pleased to find i had 15 carp for 108lb 12. Peg 38 had 70lb with peg 39 77lb a good resultfor me however the 2 lads in 38@39 lost a few more fish than myself. ROLL ON 25/4 MATCH AT CLATTERCOT

Well seeing as everyones been catching a lot I think I better post for the first time on this topic. It may not be the greatest bag on a commercial but it was a good un for me.
Arrived at Bradshaw hall fisheries at around 9.00 expecting to fish the method once again on no.4, the lake with many small pasty carp and a few decent carp. The lake was a little full so I couldn't get the peg I really wanted but I got one near so can't complain. Anyway after setting up my tip rod and mixing my grounbait I launched the method out quite close to some snags. Everybody seemed to be fishing the method as the balliff had told me and everyone else that 3 lads caught a fair few on it on friday, hmmmm sounds familiar as me, the percher and another lad had gone and caught a few then too! I started to get the usual line bites straight away and about 5 mins into the 1st cast I was into a carp of around 2lb. This boosted my confidence and I was sure of a good catch but at 11am i hadnt had another real bite! I kept fishing the method but at 11.30 I realised that no-one else was catching on the method either! So I took out my trusty argos waggler rod and a small reel, big waggler and a lump of paste. 1st cast and the float dipped, and again until it shot under and I struck into a healthy bend in the rod. This one was taking mass amounts of line and I just couldn't stop it, with 8lb line and a biggy going straight for the snags it wasnt looking good. After a 5min fight it had wrapped my line around a snag and snapped me! Damn. Luckily I had another big float so on it went with another lump of paste. On this I was regularily catching and got up to about 7 when at 12.45 i decided it was pie time!
After my cheese pasty from the cafe I was still catching but having difficulty keeping my soft paste on the hook. I resorted to using corn on the hook and was still getting the fish until around 2.00 when I discovered a great way of keeping a massive ball of paste on without it even sinking the float. This was great but I was running out of my excellent homemade paste at 3.00 and after reeling in for around the last time on the waggler my reel gave up! By this time I decided to try the method once again, I was on 13 carp at this time and wanted 2 more so with corn on the hook I launched a ball of groundbait out. It wasnt instant effect, I had to wait a good half hour until the rod took off, off my rod rests and almost into the water, my 14th carp came in at around 8lb, matching my PB, Ive still not got a double figure!!! I caught 3 more on the method but then it was 5.30 and my dad was there to pick me up, eh well, 17 carp isnt too bad!
Well done to everyone who caught a lot more than me!!!

Sat 3rd May
Venue - Kingfisher Golf and country club (just off A422 to Buckingham)

Arrived just after 8am to find only another 2 fishing

Set up and started about 8.20. Used stench groundbait with maggott and hemp mixed in for good measure.

After about half hour struck into a Tench which proceeded to spit my hook out Same thing happened about 15 mins later.

About 30mins later hooked into a nice size Perch. 1lb 8oz when weighed.

All went quiet for a while until hooked into a crayfish!!!!(a first for me)
Knocked it on the head and left it for the birds to finish off

Decided to move round a little after lunch and had 3 more Tench, the biggest being 4lb 2oz (another PB

It Got quite wet and blustery a little after that so packed up and headed home.

I left still smiling
