10 feet deep hundreds of boats especially on sundays. Normal conditions in summer ,little or no flow, nice colour due to boats. Target fish roach dace..Odd chub barbel round the mouth of the kennet.
Apart from obvious pole tactics ,bronze maggot dragged 18 inches overdepth with waggler or 6/8 no4 stick fished out just before the centre .The boats always seem to plough up and down the centre . Bronze maggot and hemp used to work for me ,but I aint been there for a few years. Keep hooklength to 0.8 or 0.10 and hooks 20 or 22 mustad canal seed or tubertini series 2 and in a team match on a sunday 8 to 10 pound will be a good weight.
If you have any cover on the far bank a little maggot feeder will pick up any odd chub, gotta get close to the far bank though.
Reading Angling centre Will give you more info as they are a "match"shop...Don't worry too much about boats ,they worry anglers more than fish. |

Try contacting Keith Arthur he seems to know a lot about fishing the thames. Talk sport fishermans blues or tight lines will probably have an Email address he say he answers all the mails he gets,.

Should fish really well in September. Would ball it on the pole line at around 11 metres and loose feed hemp over the top hoping to catch on the seed or tares late in the match after starting on the maggot(or caster if you want to gamble). Put plenty of chop in as well with a dropper on a different line and go over it with big bits of worm a 14 to 0.12- theres a lot of lumpy perch around.
Like most of the Thames, not as many chub as there used to be but still worth a look across on any obvious "cover" peg.
Waggler or topper/big stick down the middle can be a killer on its day but the boat traffic might get in the way a bit. |
Far beyond the northernmost star, west of the sun and the moon... |
