Fished the river yesterday near Crowle from 1pm til 6pm. Only fished the river twice last year below the M180 and blanked twice but my first visit this year brought me four nice fish by my own novice standards! the all went in at 8, 9, 10 and 11lb (didn't bother with the ounces!), very enjoyable. took two in first two put ins, which is always a bonus. moved after that and managed two more, one just in the dark. all went to makerel/herring heads and tails. some were catching up at pilfrey bridge too apparently, seems like it was a going day (maybe thats just me!). hope to be there this weekend (may rove a bit more) and maybe target the grayling on the wharfe on sunday to ring the changes!
fished the River Went on monday for most of the day and struggled and moved three times. thinking of jacking it in when alarm went at 5.30pm for a nice 12lber on lamprey. first decent Went pike i've had so was well chuffed, though i keep getting told there's some heavy weights somewhere in those murky depths!

buoyed by midweek success, mat heads back to the torne today for a big fat blank i did everything the same as midweek but tried a few different rigs and baits to no avail (moved umpteem times too). probably should have spun. even my soup was minging - beware of batchelors crean of asparagus (i must have picked up the wrong box). a cup full of torne runoff would have been nicer.
market weighton canal tomorrow, 1st time in 10 yrs.. come on.

i've either got lots of persistence or i'm stupid and a load of toss at fishing ! fished the torne most of sunday in various spots from belton grange up. missed one run and blanked. the only saving grace was the lovely sunny day albeit snow covered banks.
drove upto the '3 rivers' afterwards in the dark with a torch to check out this place where everyone tells me all the pike anglers go. looks so good for piking - for those who don't know its 3 drains meeting and running parallel off north east toward the humber (one is the torne). nice features and very well worn banks showing it gets absolutely hammered. fished it on the monday and there was still a lot of rods to go with my three stationed across 2 drains (yes, you can fish 2 rivers and sit in the middle!). despite the look of the venue we all stuggled. i had a very postive run in the shallow drain at 4pm and contrived to miss it in my excitment. i couldn't believe how i missed it, could have easily kicked my own head in for that (my expletives could be heard in hull!). never mind. wished i'd fished this place more, and if i had i would have walked a bit to get to less fished areas. i think the pike are spawing early, that's all i can put the hard fishing down to (?). ok its been very cold but it's been settled cold, so i would have thought this wouldnt have put them off too much. could easily b wrong though.
i'm not beat yet! a weekend off and then some local cut fishing on the pole followed by piking again on selby three lakes i hope. all this half hour travelling and they're right on my doorstep!

not suprised they fish matches there as it looks great and has miles of water. if i was to spend any time fishing it i would definitly head off the beaten track. there's literaly miles of drain going north and so long as you're not taking a shed load of gear you should be fine. i think spinning or using surface poppers would work well in summer (esp on the left drain which is shallow). not sure about the river being open this season along the road, i think i'll give the rivers a rest, it's something i'm used to round closed season so not bothered.
not heard of that other lake you mentioned - the 3 lakes in selby does have some serious pike stocked in it. spoke to a few carpers on sun and there's definitly a good head of 20s, some will be over 30 as they went in at 25 a good few yrs back. it's night fishing too, so a good bet for a long weekend. plenty of nice take aways that deliver to the lake too, so i've heard!
