Nope mate lol,
They sent us a load for the Elvington Fish-in for use in the raffle and it was an unclaimed prize that was waiting to be eaten lol. So I thought why not and was more than pleasently suprized by the taste and quality of the grub - nearly as good as 'ar lass's lol

Just a quick post to thank Martin for a really great days piking, what he did not mention was that not only did he put Richard and I on fish, but a pole is not much cop for pike and so he lent me his pike gear - that was why he did not catch any pike.
Thanks again Martin - I'm buying some gear next weekend so I can come again. And this time you will come for some of the black stuff afterwards

Killington Lake, Cumbria 11th & 12th November 2002
After reading all about the excellent roach catches coming from this 50 acre reservoir alongside the M6 Richie and myself couldn't wait for an opportunity to get amongst them. Due to work pressures though the first dates we both had free were some six weeks after the lake opened for coarse fishing.
We set off at 7am and arrived at the lake about 90 minutes later (its just over 80 miles from Middlesbrough)It was a fine morning when we left the north-east but once onto the A66 and over the Pennines the rain became fairly incessant.
We found the bailiffs cottage fairly easily (next to the yacht club) and purchased the day-tickets before driving over to Killington Services and getting ripped off on a breakfast. (£6 - although at least it was freshly cooked)
We weren't exactly sure where to fish and in the end (being lazy bu**ers) we decided to fish on the yacht club bank (only a 50 yard walk from the car-park). I dropped in on peg 8 and Richie settled on peg 6. The only method of fishing avaialable to us was the feeder, the wind was much too strong to fish the long pole and the waggler was also out of the question due to the depth and probable strength of the undertow.
We both fished medium open-end feeders, with braid main line (for bite detection). It took over an hour before Richie got his first bite (which he missed) and half-an-hour later I missed one too. Sport was very slow and although Richie was getting the odd fish I was consistently missing my bites. Bite detection was very difficult, even with the braid, we were both winding in and finding sucked maggots without seeing an obvious bite on the tip.
I then almost got my rod pulled in by a savage bite and landed this rainbow of about 2lb

We packed in at 4.30pm, other than the trout I'd only had 4 roach the best two going maybe 8oz apiece.

Richie had done quite a bit better, landing about a dozen fish for 4lb odd

After a night touring the pubs of Kendal (and a hearty breakfast) we returned the following morning to find someone already fishing the pegs we'd been on the previous day, so we moved along and fished pegs 3 and 4. It was a lot less windy than the previous day but it started raining just as we were setting up and never let up all day.
Fishing was if anything even slower than the previous day but at least we could see our bites. The wind slowly increased in strength and the rain got heavier and heavier. This is a view across the lake at mid-day

Shortly afterwards hailstones like marbles started falling and one gust of wind turned Richies brolly inside-out. At this point he turned and asked me "Are you enjoying yourself?" to which I had to reply "No". Richie had only caught two fish, I'd managed the same as the day before (plus a bonus perch of about 1/16 of an ounce )

We wrapped in at 2.30pm, very wet and somewhat dispirited, although we were treated to the site of this rainbow emerging from the lake.

According to the locals, the lake had fished its head off the first three weeks it was open but catches had tailed off since. (There was a match fished on the Sunday before we arrived which was won by Kevin Ashurst with just over 10lbs - although he was fishing on the opposite bank below the service station)
I think I'll give it another go in March, just before the coarse season finishes and will definately go over early October next year before the fish have wised up again.

Having read Martins short note I feel I shopuld put some flesh on the bones.
I have been out of work for 6 months and last week I became gainfully employed and start work next week. This lead to a problem - less fishing. More especially after last weeks experience no more weekday pikeing on the North Level. So Richard and I returned with enthuiasm.
We left home early but the Fog was horrible and were it for anything else other than fishing sense may hav prevailed and we would have turned back. We arrived at the McDonalds at 8:15 the journey having taken 45 mins longer than last week. We ordered our breakfasts with trepidation - they were really poor last week, so we were suitably suprised when it was good and hot. We have agreed that in future it is best not to be first.
We then moved down to the drain and found Martin already there. I set up a spinning rod using a Shakespear Big S lure, Richard did the same but using a, well I do not knowwhat it was called - but christmas tree seams a good description.
As we walked down the bank Martin struck into a fish of around three pounds and this seamed to bode well for the day. Soon after starting Richard was into one of a similar stamp. Then I got my first and was stunned how late the take was. The trace swivel was inches from my rod tip. So there was a little panic as I sorted things out. The fish was again about 3lbs. A couple more cast and again I had another of a similar stamp.
Then in the distance, hidden from view by the fog we heard this mechanical sound - It was the weed cutter. Martin said it would kill the fishing in this section so we relocated. Martin fortunately modifying his driving stlye due to the dense fog.
We moved to a different streach on the drain but unfortunatley did not get a bite on eith the dead baits or lures.
Martin Sammy Phil and Barbera came back at 4:30 and we packed up and went to the pub.
Although we did not get many Pike we had a thoroughly good time and really enjoyed the day - depite the fog. In the day I drove 160 miles in 4.5 hours and that included 30 Miles of the A1M

wow guys some great reports there, ive been engrossed for the best part of an hour reading, well perhaps i should add my own really but its not about piking!
I set out last weekend to find it was still, overcast and not too cold, perfect for the canal fishing (and no boats YEY), i arrived to find th estretch of the staffs worcster canal completely devoid of anglers more fish for me.
i settled on a peg that had a tree submerged in the water at about 13 m out and decided to fish this feature with a soft six elastic, and a 0.10 hooklength with says it breaks at around 5lb!!!! (trabucco T1 line) to a size 16 micro barbed kamasan B511, this line was going to recive a decent helping of chopped worm and caster, and during the course of the day have casers catapulted over every 5 mins, the next line i chose was at 8 meters down the track and decided on a 5 elastic to a 0.08 hooklength which breaks at 4lb!!! to a size 18 barbed B611 and this line was going to recieve a hekping of chopped maggots and casters, and will recieve 3 maggots over the top every 3 mins or so, and the third line I set up were for the huge bleak that inhabits the area, set at about 2 feet in depth at around 5 meters to a 2 elastic, size 20 IM5 hook, and 0.06 line with float that takes 5x no7 style leads (bites n the drop) and fished with flouro pinkie,
I fed all lines and started for the bleak, slipping a pinkie on the hook i shipped out lay it on the water, the float had just setted and then slipped away and a 3 oz bleak soon found itself in my keepnet, after fishng for the bleak for a good hour i refed the far line and the track, carried on with the bleak, just as my float settled it slipped away very slowly this time and i latched into a fish that was not a bleak, in fact playing this fish on a 2 elastic for 5 minutes was great fun and soon netted a Perch of around 2lb FANTASTIC!!!!
I thought to leave the bleak line for the time being and slipped an inch long piece of wrm onto my hook for the far side swim, the float again had only just settled when it slid away, i struck to find solid resistance, the fish took over 10 feet of elastic out on its fist run and then afetr a spirited fight landed my first of several large chub, none under 11/2 lb splendid.
so the next place i tried was down the track, just as i thought the day couldent get any better my double maggot hookbait was taken by what at first i thought was a carp as the fish took me up the canal 3 pegs from where i was fishing, eventually tho i got the upper hand and landed the biggest perch i have ever seen, and weighed in at an impressive 4lb 3oz.
i ended up with 16lb, 12oz in 5 hours fishing, what a day, give it a go its fantastic.
tight lines people

Great reads (as always) keep em coming
Peter (Reavel13),
Trabucco T1 is a good line (been using it for 6 months) although in crude test's i've done the stated breaking strain is a bit over the top (to say the least).
Now Dave has added a Review Forum i'll put up a review of the sizes i've tested and used.
