Trev, I took that photo on Dave's camera, and he had just managed to tangle the line on his second rod. Trouble is most of the time he had a wide cheesy grin on his face

Couldn't have had anything to do with the rather attractive young mum, sitting 5yds away to his left could it????????

Mon 26th aug Orrell res Nr wigan
Toilets…….yes (very clean)
After missing out on the welsh bash due and now being £126 out of pocket due to my car not playing, I decided to give the res a go for a few hours and use up some of the bait I had gotten and try to chill out.
I picked a swim opposite an island, both left and right margins were lined with reeds, the island was about 35yrds away and at 9 mtrs I found the bottom of a slope giving me 5ft of water.
I set up a pole line at the nine mtrs and fed two small balls of crazy bait gold laced with chopped worms and casters.
I set up another line to my left in the margin, I had 2ft of water. Into this went a pole pot of chopped worms and casters (no crazybait)
I decided to just fish the two swims only, but if they failed I had the option to flick a feeder to the island.
On the 9mtr line went double caster and in it went, after a minute the float sailed away and I was soon unhooking a small roach, then another and another, then a small skimmer and so it went on like this for about an hour. During this time I was constantly flicking a few casters into my margin swim.
Time for a change, I fed another ball of feed into the 9mtr line then changed to my margin swim. in went a small piece of worm, the float didn’t even get a chance to settle when it was snaffled by a perch of about a lb, then a roach of about ½lb followed by a few more roach then a couple of small skimmers, again this went on for the next hour or so.
I fed another ball of feed at 9mtrs, poured a brew, lit a fag and sat there for a while just taking in the glorious sunshine (orrell res is a lovely scenic place)
A piece of worm tipped with a caster went in, after about 5mins I got a nice slow bite, I was soon slipping the net under a roach of about 1½lbs, the same next cast followed by another couple, all over the lb mark. Then I started to catch a few skimmers to about ½lb.
I continued like this for the next couple of hours, swapping swims, changing from caster to worm and finished up with 38 fish, roach, perch, skimmers and a couple of gudgeon.
Didn’t make up for missing the welsh bash, but I certainly enjoyed myself and topped up the tan.

Welsh Fish-in
First I would like to thank all those of you that came and made it a weekend to remember, to some for the wrong reasons,Gray you know my feelings and I hope we can fish together again soon, for most of us it was memorable for the right reasons, the fishing, the weather and the company.
I arrived at Hazel Court on the Friday at about mid-day, with me was my 12 year old son Daniel, after a chat with Gray and Gary we got down to the task of pitching the tent and setting the camp that was to be home for the next three days. That done, we started fishing mid afternoon, a very frustrating afternoon and evening as I hooked a number of fish but failed to land any of them, my only excuse was that my mind was not fully on the fishing, I was concerned that people were travelling a long distance and I was worried thay would not enjoy the fishery or the weekend. I need not have worried as soon as the people travelling from far off lands arrived,(with a strange language I had difficulty understanding)I could see that they were not disapointed.
The rest of the weekend has been pretty well covered by both Peter and Dave in thair excellent reports and I don't want to go over the same ground, so I will just add a few more pics taken on the weekend.
The first is the second PB of the afternoon for Daniel was a fine 8.3lb of hard fighting carp.

The second is my new PB Tench at 2.3lb not big by many of your standards but this is my first Tench over 6oz so to say I was pleased is an understatement.

The third is of a hard fighting common carp which was more pleasing as it was caught on the pole which many of you know is not my first choice method (coz I am poo at it!).

A few of the other highlights of the weekend were the letter from the local council threatening prosecution if we did not take down the signs we put up pointing the way to the fishery (which Geoff and I did on the way home, Thanks Geoff). And Dave's clever use of a towel to hide the bog roll to save his embarrasment while walking too and from the toilet (thanks Stu for tipping us off).
All in all it was a very successful weekend and one which I will have no worries about repeating in the future if anyone wants a second go.

Well after a disastrous day at Elmfield Pond (see under match results) I was determined to catch something and not have a completely wasted day. I checked out our club stretch of the River Swale at Catterick but that was very low and clear and didn't really look very inviting.
Decided to check out one of my local commercial fisheries, Renny Lake, which can usually be relied upon for a few fish (and is only £3 for an evening ticket) and found that Dave, Lee and Steve, who had also been at Elmfield had beaten me to it.
Fished at the top end of the lake, nearest the road, in front of the long island. Started fishing at 8m, just at the bottom of the island shelf, initially with maggot. After a succession of small roach, I cupped in half-a-tin of Coshida and sat it out on the cat-meat for the remainder of the evening (with no success).
Jeff Whittaker, the lakes owner, came down about 6.30 and said the lake had been fishing very slowly all day and so, he'd been told, had The Oaks at Sessay.
I hope things improve because we've got a club match on there in three weeks time.
Anybody who's fished Renny (I know Norm has) will have seen the free-range chickens which have the run of the place. I'd been feeding a couple of them with the last of my sweetcorn when I noticed one of them didn't appear to be walking too well. When I looked closer I realised it was completely tangled (and tethered) in about 20 yards of what looked like 10lb nylon line. I managed to grab it and cut it free, it pecked my hand in thanks and ran off.
I just wish the IDIOTS who'd discarded the line could have seen the damage they might have done.

SO You are the one who set free my Sunday Dinner!

Sorry Simon! Couldn't agree more, but the idiot wouldn't have cared anyway!
Like Mark replied to your match post, some people cannot understand that the weather is poor all over for fishing. Either too much rain, or like now too little and unsettled wind directions.
Those who part with £3.00 for a Carp Puddle are particularly unforgiving (and uncaring)if they don't catch continuously.
Give me a river, even when it doesnt fish, its alive!
Cheers

Mon 2nd Sept Island dam, orrell, nr wigan
Toilets…..no (but surrounded by woods)
Arrived at about 07:30, lovely sunshine with a slight breeze putting a nice ripple on the water, headed for the bottom end so that the breeze was blowing into my face and were the deeper water is. Set up one rod with an inline cage feeder, this was to be fished on an alarm. At about 25yrds to my left was a patch of lily’s, I made a couple of casts to put some riddled meat around the area and baited up a size 12 hook with a pellet of meat, cast out, set rod in alarm then set up my other rod.
At about 35yrds I found the bottom evened out giving me 14ft of water, I made 12 casts with a gripmesh feeder containing g/bait, casters and chopped worms, on top of this I baited up a size 14 hook with a worm and caster.
After about 20 mins I hadn’t had a touch, I decided to leave the meat rod as this was really only to pick up any bonus fish and I recast my worm rod again with worm and caster on the hook. After 10mins the tip went round and in came a roach of about ½lb, next cast saw my tip shoot round really hard then spring back, on retrieval I found that my hooklength had gone (2½lb)(think it was a big perch) After that I only got a couple of light touches, tried casters, worms, combinations but couldn’t get the fishys interested.
On my meat line I had only had a couple of knocks, until at about 11:30 my alarm went as a fish screamed off into the distance, after 10mins I was slipping my net under a nice tench of 6lb 4 oz, I was absolutely made up, yes with the tench itself but also cos it was my first fish on my new okuma dynadrag reel and it performed better than I had expected.
That was it, nothing else only a few taps on the tip, so I decided to call it a day at 12:00.

Nice one Ray,
Glad twice, 1st that your pleased with the Okuma (me too!) More so for the cracking Tench (I need one of those!)
BUT can i remind you of one of your earlier 'clean up campaign' sayings!
Never mind 'No toilets but plenty of woods!' How about 'If you bring it with you , Take it home with you!'

just a quick one
had a great day out with plod yesterday, we spent the day at five trees fishery, its a very small freindly water with lots of small carp, we made our way down to the water and it was like walking through the jurasic age, big birds every where, it is an osterich farm, im used to having ducks/swans and the like nicking my bait but to have one of these giants coming at you is not for the feint hearted, and this one was a little one at 5ft. we also saw a kestral take a wood pidgeon, it span the pidgeon about six time mid flight, then droped it in the water infront of us, and we caught a few fish as well, 15 carp each ranging from 1-5lb 13oz, mostly on prawn :)

the water is Five Trees Farm Trellech, Near Monmouth, and at £3.50 its well worth a day out, and you can buy some ozzie stakes after your days fishing too.

River Tees - Preston Lane 6th September 2002
This was a practice session prior to WICAC (Water Industry Coarse Angling Championship) on the River Tees from Bowesfield to Preston Park on Saturday.
Met the rest of the 6 man team at Preston Park, just after 9am. Peter had been to pick up the bait (1kg dendrobenas, 2 pints casters, pint each of maggots and squats, box of lobbies and a couple of bags of groundbait each for the two days) and we then set off in convoy for the short drive to the pipe bridge just upstream of the new Ingleby Barwick bridge.
Walked under the new bridge and found a peg about 200 yards downstream of it This is the view across the river

Just rigged up the two rods - feeder fished towards the middle (20ft deep) looking for the bream/skimmers and pole fished at 5m with chopped worm for perch and 10/11m looking for roach.
Had a few quick casts with the feeder to get some bait in, cupped some chopped worm in down the inside and managed to find a flat spot at 10m (about 12 ft deep) where I put three balls of groundbait. Fished the feeder for 30 minutes catching just a solitary perch (a little un), caught very little on the chopped worm too, so went out to 10m over my groundbait.
Started catching small (1-4oz) roach almost straight away but every so often the swim would die. On the Tees this normally signifies the arrival of a big perch or a pike, so I'd swop rigs and tow a lobbie round the peg for a minute or two.(without success this time)
After a couple of hours of catching intermittently I went for a walk along to see how the rest of the lads were getting on. I was just in time to see Peter landing a skimmer of about 1lb 8oz (he finished with 5 of them for about 8lbs)
Returned to my peg and it starting p***ing down (hence the absence of any more photos) We wrapped in at 4.30 and my net of roach, a few perch and a solitary chublet weighed about 4lbs. Lessons learnt for tomorrow - none really - it boils down to sitting it out on the feeder for bream or fishing for bits and hope no-one else snares a bream or two.
Hope the weather is better tomorrow at least

simonr nice report but i have to disagree with the opinions of some (at the end of the day if every one was the same wouldent life be boring)
i go to work all day every day (and some times on a saturday)
if i have not got my kids football match
so on a sunday (witch is usualy the only day i have to my self)
i do not think twice to pay £4 or £5 for a days fishing (on a poudle)
for the chance to catch a couple of fish
lets not get away from the fact i am 32year old and untill lately(fished with mookie) i would not even think of fishing a river (every one to there own )lets not knock any ones own idea of a good days fishing
do what you want , let others do what they want, and every one is happy, (that includes fluff flingers)lol

see yas later norm

You totally misunderstood my point I believe norm.
I was agreeing with Simon that the thoughtless discarding of line that can trap birds and animals is criminal. AND it is more prevalent where you find people have paid out for a day ticket and then failed to catch! I fish BOTH carp lakes, nearly every PAD match is on one AND Rivers, all of which are on club tickets. I havent fished a day ticket stretch since March. I blank or suceed on both, dependant on conditions and my ability.
Invariably, line, litter and other such messes are only found in my experience on the day ticket stretches as the club angler is more considerate of others (or frightened of losing his concession)
Caught up now?
Cheers

I agree totally Trev
We opened our club water (Tontine Pond) to lmited day-tickets a few years ago. The lake and the surrounding area is ALWAYS spotless (in fact printed on the front of our club card is the motto "Leave Litter - Leave The Club") but as soon as the day-ticket anglers arrived the amount of litter was staggering.
It wasn't just the litter though - we had complaints from the local farmer (from whom we lease the water) regarding trespass and people using the incorrect access to the lake (someone even broke into the boat-house and took one of the boats out)
Although the money was a nice boost to club funds, it wasn't worth the hassle so we binned the day-tickets a couple of years ago. Funnily enough we still get people at the lake claiming that they've purchased a day-ticket (which they always seem to have mislaid) despite the big sign on the stile saying "Season Tickets Only - No Day Tickets"

Off to Hartley Lands Farm for our 8th club match. Jumping into the car the heavens opened, and didn't let up until i pulled into the car park. The fishery comprise a number of ponds and an irrigation reservoir, which we were to fish today.
The Reservoir....

After the usual welcomes/insults, into the draw bag and peg 17,which as it turns out i struggled from in this years AT SuperCup match.not a good start, but in for a penny........
Peg 17..............................

There are a lot of skimmers & roach present but you need to target the carp to frame on the reservoir at this time of year. If they aren't in your swim you'll struggle, which is exactly what i did!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At the end 22lbs 3ozs was only good enough for 12th place. Still some good weights were recorded,The match was won with a weight of 83lbs 14ozs of carp caught by Paul Ollerenshaw,(The reigning Club Champion) for his 5th win in 8 matches.
Paul Ollerenshaw....

Some nice fish came out, including this one for Don Freeman,a nice mirror of 9lbs 15ozs

Not my day today, but it beats the hell out of d*****ting.Still roll on Friday when i'm taking the brother-in-law out for a days punt fishing at Old Bury Hill.
