Following our successful first meet of 2 weeks ago, John aka 'Esox' and I decided to revisit Rudyard. Meeting at 7.30am, we choose to fish further up the waters this time, as the temperature had risen and we reasoned that the fish would be moving to shallower water.
We were not alone in this as we passed 4 other Anglers, even higher up and stopped just short of 2 more as we decided to fish 2 pegs around the 110 mark.
Rudyard is easy to find, just take the Macclesfield Road from Leek, for approx 1 mile until you see the Rudyard sign. A very large Reservoir, that feeds a canal, it holds a good head of Pike, some 200 permanent pegs and is also match fished for mainly Bream.
It was raining when we arrived, it quickly cleared up and was a nice day although windy, by the time we were fishing, just after 8.30am. With 2 dead bait rods each, we were slightly concerned with the small amount of colour in the water and I set up a feeder rod containing sensas 3000 Brown crumb groundbait laced with a few casters and pinkies and a double red maggot on a 20 hook, to attempt to catch an alternative small livebait. It wasn't long before this Robin took a liking to the spilt pinkies.
Sadly, the chewed maggot discovered on my final retrieval at 4.45pm, was the only indication all day of any life in the water!
Rumour had it that a Pike was taken from the very low number pegs in the morning, but all around our area, not even a run was noted. No fish, but a very pleasant day, spent with John and next time we know it could be so different.
