(Formerly Angling Link) “Helping more disabled people experience the joys of angling” Patrons Bobby Davro - Dave Harrell - Bob Nudd MBE - Keith Arthur - Alan Scothorne - Ivan Marks -Des Taylor - John Wilson - Dave Vincent Richard Digance - Lady AME Hill CBE - Matt Hayes- Bruno Brookes Minister for Sport Kate Hoey has promised to help The British Disabled Angling Association fund a programme of work which will provide eleven million disabled people with an opportunity to take up fishing. The Minister met with The British Disabled Angling Association (BDAA) Director Peter Thompson, and Founder Terry Moseley in London, and offered to ensure that funds are made available, and every assistance given in order that the newly formed organisation can achieve their aims and objectives of promoting and catering for disabled people to go fishing. The Minister said, “I am impressed with the valuable work that Terry Moseley & the BDAA have already undertaken. I am keen for the BDAA to be given the opportunity to work closely with Sport England and the angling governing bodies in developing angling for people with disabilities, and I look forward to working with BDAA in the future.“ She added “ We also need to find a way for the British Disabled Angling Association to become a part of the National Angling Alliance in their own right, so that they can act as consultants in their field, and where money is made available to help the disabled - the BDAA should receive and administer it.” BDAA Director Peter Thompson was delighted with the Minister’s response and said, “We received a positive attitude from the Minister and believe we can now look to the future with optimism.” He added, “With the help of Government funding we will look towards enhancing the sporting arena for those disabled people who want to go fishing, including the production of a uniform standard in relation to access and fishing platforms, an accredited list of qualified fisheries that provide adequate facilities for the disabled, and the status of being the official body to oversee the effective expenditure of funds to those fisheries making applications for money to provide disability access.“ BDAA Founder Terry Moseley who began his quest for better facilities for disabled anglers five years ago under the name ‘Angling Link‘ added, “I’m delighted that after a lot of hard work we are finally at a stage where funding will allow us to awaken the sport of angling to the fact there are eleven million people out there who need more information on a sport that every one of them can take part in.” Further information available from: Peter Thompson tel: 01260 273549 or Terry Moseley Tel: 01922 860912
